Normally if a pivot bolt is not cooperating I would lube and walk away, giving the penetrate time to work.
Last weekend I was in a bit of a hurry.
Removing the nut and grease zert I would oil each side, block and tap, oil, block and tap, oil, block and.....well you get the idea. I wasn't getting anywhere once the threaded end flushed with the frame. Thanks to forum and my packrattyness.
I found a solution that ended with a bolt out and the threads in good shape.
Following 5twins advice I have replaced every straight sided grease zert I come across.
The things are a friggin mess my gun doesn't grab the straight sided ones and grease just balls out the sides.
Then following gggGary's advice I removed the ball and springs for use in the 34 carbs.
Still I have a bit left so I chunk things like that in a can.
I located one and put it in the end of the pivot shaft to protect the bolts threads(inner and outter).
Perfect to hammer on.

Funny how different they can be. I had one I had to cut free like one of our Aussy buddies had to do. Then last week while starting in on a 70 with 34,000 miles that had spent some quality time laying out behind a barn somewhere, the pivot bolt easily tapped out with no drama. That one must have had some grease gun love in it's life.
Good call on swapping to modern zerk fittings WER.
