where is the start solenoid?

I have a hardtail chop that I bought as a project, but I didn't find the solenoid in any of the boxes. Where is it normally installed on the bike?

My '79 has it high on the right side of the battery box

on the stock bike, it goes in a place that more or less isn't there anymore on a hardtailed bike.

Is it officially called the starter switch assembly? I've not seen one, but I do need one. Anyone in the MN area have an extra they want to sell? Or should I get a new one since it's an electrical component?
