Trying hard to not waste money but I want to hone my cylinders and put in new rings. This one says its for the brake cyl, but its 3 in and seems to be the same as the engine flex hone. Same grit and all.

Will it work?

Thanks for the advice.

Oh, Also,

Im open to borrowing one if youre willing to share. Shipping both ways on me.

Valve spring compressor too. I'll make one if not.

From looking at the pics of the engine and brake hones the length of the shaft is longer on the engine hone.
With the 650 bore size of 75 mm/ 2.95 in. It may be to close to max size to be as effective as it should. I don't know for sure. Someone with a hone of that style might chime in and tell us what size works best.
On the valve spring compressor A large c-clamp with a short section of 3/4 inch pipe with a notch cut in one side to remove and install the keepers works well.
In the XS650 tech section there is a link to homemade tools. Such a device is better desrcibed than I just did.

Yes, that will work, in fact I think it's the same one I have. Run the drill slow, like at 600 to 800 RPM. These are sold by the size they fit, not their actual O.D. If you measure that one after you get it, you'll see it's actually a bit bigger than 3" and it is made to work in a 3" bore (within 1/4" or so). Flexhone tells you to get the size of your bore but if that is not available, get the next larger one. The size below this is 2 7/8" (73mm) which would be too small.

I figured it would, just wanted a double check from the experts. Thanks. I am looking for one locally. Hope I can find one.......

Fat chance of that happening.
