Wanted - xs1 or xs2 or 73tx headlight.

I have a complete headlight assembly with headlight, shell, and both mounting arms off of a 75. All in good shape the shell and arms will need to be painted as they have some rust. If this will work. Free you pay shipping

Hi there, i sent you a private conversion about these gauges I have. I also included the pictures.
Thanks, please let me know,
Jonathan

hi jerry. the 1975 headlight is different size from the early models . the 75s were 7 inch and the early were 5.3/4 inch..cheers gary.

A heads up; standard 7" bulbs fit in those early buckets/chrome trim rings.

theres no way in hell that a 7 inch globe and fittings will fit inside 5.3/4 inch shell. i just tried it.. i would love to see the internals of that green headlight in the pic you sent.. cheers gary..

Wait what? Fred-Gary you dare to question THE ggggGary? :D
There's something amiss SOMEWHERE cuz the XS650 never had a 5 3/4" headlight, all years came with a 7" bulb. This was kind of a US regs thing. Feds wanted it to be easy to replace a burned out bulb so headlights were pretty well limited to the 7" and your 5 3/4" every corner gas station had a sealed beam to fit your car....
Some pics;

that chrome ring is an NOS early 70-73 trim ring, I removed the staple from the bag to get you a pic,

first time it had been opened....
The bulb is a standard Sylvania 7" car headlight.

other shots are from XS1's sitting out in the shed. The bucket and trim stayed the same with the same part # from 70 to 73

Those early Koyo bulbs LOOK like a sealed beam but they are not, they have a bulb inside a housing, the front ring can be un-crimped, lens and reflector separated to clean lens and (very fragile) silvering. then use some adhesive and re-crimp.
That green bike pictured above even has an LED bulb in the 7" H4 headlight and it all goes in the stock bucket. It IS tight, very tight.
Maybe you have a headlight bucket from one of the smaller Yamahas of that vintage? pic of a 1972 DT2 250

use same size bulb, bucket has a little more room, the ring isn't tapered in like the early chrome rings. Doesn't have the high beam indicator on top.

They're much easier to find.

here you go gaz tell me what i have .. the red bucket is the 7 inch 3 big holes . the silver bucket is 5.3/4 has hole in the top for high beam. notice the difference in the bottom mount..alse the siver bucket has scollops in the back of it..cheers gary.
