XS650 Frame/Neck Differences

Can someone please confirm what years have the shorter steering neck? From what I've been able to gather the 70~73 have a 170mm steering stem, while the 74~83 have a 188mm steering stem.

Basically looking to swap the 77 35mm forks into my 72 frame. It looks like the best option will be a stem swap into the newer triple, I'm just unsure what years had the longer necks/stems?

Or just get the bearing face on the stem turned down farther down the stem.

A 36 mm 1977 xs750 non leading axle front end may be a direct swap...been looking to confirm the stem length.
Heck, may be any year xs750/xs850 or even the xs1100 may be a direct swap....leading axle or not. Inquiring minds would like to know.

When you say 188 mm, is that from the lower bearing seat to the bottom of the threads?
If so the xs750, 850, 1100 tree is 170 mm long.
