Update !!
After some reflection, testing, and multiple left handers I got a very responsive xs650 with the 41mm fcr here's the goods,
Main 180
Pilot 52
Enrichener jet (stock)
Needle (not sure of the spec it came in a moose racing carb rebuild kit)
Needle clip is 3rd groove (center)
It's still winter up here in Alberta Canada and with this fuckn covid virus bullshit it's been giving me more time to drink smoke and wrench the hotrods ! Maybe a yearly quarantine is required .... To get my projects completed
1993 fox LX 5.0 bought 12 years ago off original owner 60k kms I probably 20 on it then built my 347 stroker Afr aluminum heads diamond pistons 10.8:1 compression xe282 hydraulic roller cam. Mild steel roll bar all Tig welded and just put my second t5 transmission behind it .... Launched it hard...
My 76xs the "Prairie sailor" got a new hand built stainless 2into1 intake with a 41mm fcr carb. In the midst of jetting it. It's pretty lean right now :( is insanely snappy with full choke. Any theories on how many jets it should come up ? I'm thinkn 2 on pilot and 4 on mains
Custom tail
Full...
Ok so I was wrong, the jetting is lean :( I had a bobble in the mid I figured main jet but I pulled the choke out (at idle) and the RpMs increased .....
So I left the choke full out and turned the idle down and she idled so nice and had instant throttle response and no mid to high bobble. Does...
So far I'm really impressed with how the bike runs, the ergonomics of having a bunch of intake and carb hanging off the side I can't wait for the roads to clear up here in Edmonton Alberta Canada go test this beast !
I 100% agree,
I just wanted a fcr41 carb and a equal length intake with it forward facing sooooo maybe it's not ram air as per scientific explanation but... the title/topic got ya here for us to ramble on about an old chunk of Japanese iron lol half the mission is accomplished.... make some...
Well it's a pipe dream of mine to try exactly what you describing, a ram air on an Xs 650, here's what I got so far, mandrel bent 1.5" dia stainless tubing hand cut 304ss flanges. Equal length runners +-. 3/4" carburetor is a 41mm fcr carb jetted to xs650r specs for initial setup. And a k&n cone...
Soo that design didn't work.... I cut it apart and remade the Intake to be more ram air and tighter to the centerline
Purchased a k&n RC 1200 airfilter. Now just brainstorming on an airfilter cover /shaped cowl for it
Don't let this scare you.. wrap those headers keep the heat in and make sure you soak the wrap in water before you wrap it and spray with high temp silicone spray after you heat cycle the wrap a few times. You'll be sad if you don't silicone it one touch and it frays badly
Thank you, here's some foot peg pics,
up front is the standard fwd controls custom stainless linkage and a pair of those wild pivot pegs off a MX dirtbike. legit, bolted directly into the original footpeg bracket that is rubber isolated and all.... This bike is an absolute beauty to ride I'm...
