    Post engine rebuild running issues

Will do. From what your saying it sounds like it's not an internal issue within the motor itself so I will put that back together and try what you suggested with the PMA. I took the carbs apart yesterday and they are all clean inside and it still ran the same.

    Post engine rebuild running issues

Thanks for the reply. I am running the standard ignition. I installed a PMA kit from MikesXS for years before. I have only replaced gaskets and washers etc on the rebuild and the battery with a Antigravity AG801. Same carbs I cant seem to find the old alternator at the moment do try that.

    Post engine rebuild running issues

I recently rebuilt my XS 650 engine (first engine rebuild). I only striped down the top end to investigate a tapping noise when the bike was cold upon starting that would go away once warming up after a few mins. I quickly found that the plastic part of the cam chain tensioner was no longer...

    Where to use gasket sealant?

I am rebuilding my top end at the moment using a gasket kit from YamBits. Should I be using some sort of gasket sealant on the grey paper type gaskets? I have used a sealant between the cylinder head and cylinder barrels but I didn't between the cylinder barrels and bottom end. I was just...

    Engine maintenance

Here is a clip of the noise I got from a friends video just after starting. My friend was filming something else and wasn't standing that close to the bike. Apologies for the background noise. https://soundcloud.com/olie-burton/xs650-noise Measuring with a vernier and they both measure 19.96mm...

    Engine maintenance

Thanks for all the advice. It's a 1968 bike imported to the UK from the US. It's a 447 engine. I bought it from an older chap who was going to restore it back to new but due to health reason decided to sell the bike. It was a non-runner when I bought it but that was mainly due to non of the...

    Engine maintenance

Hi all, Happy Holidays. Earlier this year it generated a light metal tapping sound that went away when the bike warmed up. I initially put this down to worn piston rings or something similar but not really knowing that much about engines I haven't used the bike since to be safe. With plenty of...

    Identifying XS engine model

New to the world of owning a vintage motorcycle so apologies if these questions are easily answered. How do I know what engine model I have? My bike is a 1978 us import. I think I have a bit of slack in the head/piston so I think I need to replace these and it seems like a good idea to spend...
