I took off the pattern silencers and replaced them with the original silencers because they sound better . The original silencer chrome is pretty good but they are both dented. I dont see those dents as I ride the bike but I do hear the exhaust note! I used to drive a volvo 740 GL estate.. the...

ROAD TEST DAY:When I bought my bike it was equiped with some of ther right sized BS38 carburettors but they dont appear to have originated from the XS650 The needle jet holder and the needle itself appears to be entirely different and those carbs also used a single cable operation as the later...

Today , I finished polishing my rear wheel stainless spokes and sprayed the brushed alloy rim and hub with laquer. I'll have a close look tomorrow to see if I should start rebuilding the wheel or give the bits another coat.

TBH I prefer to work along the lines of KFS. For wheel building and trueing, all I need is good wheel bearings. When the tyre and tube are on the completed rim I shall need to set up level and without any binding in order to ballance.

I've made up a truing jig for my wheel rebuild. So long as the wheel bearings are ok, its ok to just use a couple of vees sawn into some scrap wood. I have since stripped down the wheel completely and its ready for cleaning up.

What have you done to your XS today?

I received my stainless steel butted spoke sets today. I think that I shall clean up the hubs and rims, polish them and then re-lacquer the rims and include the hubs too. The existing rims are still in good nick and just need tidying up. There is very little run out on the rims. The wheel...

I had a similar issue with a moto morini which used grimecca brakes. I changed the master cylinder seals out of desperation and solved the problem. By the time I found the problem I was so ticked off and tired of constantly trying to keep brake fluid off the paintwork, I cleaned the whole system...

Its worth an engine teardown to see if the motor is totally trashed. My bet is that new rods and bearings and a thorough clean will recover it.

Used the synch gauges while I turned the tick over down a bit and gave me a bit more throttle cable slack. Also drained the float chambers ready for winter lay up.
