    XS650 Craigslist postings depository

Seems like a good deal, not really my style but I know some really dig these. https://nh.craigslist.org/mcy/d/temple-yamaha-650/6916958249.html

Sold / Found / Inactive - XS Performance exhaust port optimizers

Found a set of XS Performance exhaust port optimizers (from 650Central) in my stash, no longer have the 650 so these can go! Had bought them to go with Omar's Mile exhaust on my scrambler, but never ended up using them. A little dirty from test fitting, but they'll be covered in soot soon...

Got the rear brake rebuilt & front's working well enough for a test ride. Took it on my go-to 50 mile loop and it performed great! Pulls hard all the way to redline. The 3-3 exhaust sounds amazing, but I'm debating swapping back to the stock exhaust simply so I can put a center stand on it...

Yep, it's a standard with a goofy (but pretty darn comfy) king/queen seat on it. Over the winter I scored a mint stock seat with red side covers & tail for about a hundred bucks.

I've got the snap ring out in that pic, the piston still won't so much as wiggle. I found a much better looking master on ebay pretty cheap that I will rebuild instead. I didn't want to reuse the cap anyway, as it is just flaky rust. It looks like these use the same brakes as the 650, so I...

First road test was a success! Didn't go far as I don't have it plated yet, just to the end of my dead end road and back (1/8 mile or so). Got it up to third gear nice and smooth (but the real test will be harder acceleration). That triple engine is a torque monster, it just wanted to go :bike...

The new bleed type pilots seem to have done the trick! I was still getting a pretty bad flat spot right off idle, so pulled the carbs again and raised the needle one notch. Seems to be pretty close now, starts on one or two kicks (starter button quit on me), and revs out like it should. Next...

Whelp...may have been chasing my own mistake around with this one. After pulling the new pilot jets out again I realized they looked different than the originals. Apparently the rebuild kits I bought came with non-bleed style pilots, while these carbs actually need the bleed type (holes in the...

It's finally spring! Meaning the garage is warm enough to work in again :D Pulled off the ignition pickup coil and found the advance unit on the backside of it was gummed up with old grease. It would not snap back when twisted, gave it a couple shots of cleaner, spritzed it with lithium grease...

    LEDs (brighter) safer?

I put a good quality LED tail light bulb in all of my bikes; I find them to be much easier to see in daylight.

Yeah, the triples site is no help at all unfortunately. The bike is a '79 XS750F, I have a copy of the overall service manual & the addendum for the later CDI bikes which has a wiring diagram.

That's what is confounding me, all three pickup coils read open. There are three wires leading to the pickups, one ground, and a fourth white wire for the neutral switch. With a meter's negative to ground & positive to a colored lead I get an infinite reading. I tried hitting the pickups with a...

Not sure...seems my issue is still present. When I swapped the units I had let the bike run longer than usual and got better throttle response. The day after, with a cold engine, it does the same thing as before. If I let the bike warm up a bit, I become able to rev it. Though when I took it out...

We may have found success! Swapped the ignition unit out with another one off ebay and we have revs...love the way a triple sounds :bike: Revs steady until about 5k then rockets up to redline (have to see if this feels right for the uni-pods, Rick upped the mains to 140)...will have to get at...

My meter says that all three coils see about 11.8 volts
