Mike's replacement long clutch push rod: Does the smaller diameter end go to the clutch side or to the primary drive side?

I've just completed a rebuild and conversion to a street tracker of a 1982 XS650. Everything is working as it's supposed to (surprise!), except the carbs (Mikuni 36mm VM) are running rich at low speed & fouling the plugs, especially the left cylinder. How do I correct this problem? Thanks...

No and no. I've trashed the stock boxes - this is a conversion to a cafe racer and the air boxes don't get it done. Do you know where I can get an idea or two for building supports?
