Help needed getting this 750cc, 277 rephase running.

So, I forgot about this post. Let me fill you in. Someone commented about the cool little stubby mufflers. I said they were straight through and that a piece of wire inserted through them would go right to the exhaust valve. Hmmm I wonder. A piece of welding rod stops halfway up the pipe. WTF...

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

Thanks Gary. Standard Modern has a similar manual on their website. Item 51 on page 22, saddle clamp. Is this used to add drag to the carriage for this very reason?

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

Thanks GLJ. My lathe has the same nut that locks the carriage to the bed. It is pretty loose. Took the machine apart today.(it's a Standard Modern utillathe 10"). The only thing I found was the rack hanging from the bed was loose. Not sure what else I'm lookin for but it needed cleaning...

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

I think this were I ask this question. My Standard Modern lathe has a problem I need some help with. I can push the carriage left and right simply by leaning on it. In my mind it should only move using the hand wheel.. Consequently, when I try to end face any material the carriage moves away...

Thought that what was the whole explanation at the start of this thread. Which piston leads doesn't matter if the valves for that cylinder open and close at the right time and the spark happens correctly. Read through my setup from the beginning and 1- tell me what more information you need and...

So just to go through the exercise to see if I have the points opening when the valves are open, 360 degrees out, we will start with the cam in a position were the points just opened. 15 degrees BTDC. I have the right side valve covers off and noting valve movement with my fingers. The first...

Help needed getting this 750cc, 277 rephase running.

Thanks Gary. I have studied Bob's picture of his points setup in the past . For comparison mine's on the left here. What I don't understand about his setup is if the motor is (lets say a perfect 270) then the points should be at a 45 degree angle to each other. (the cam runs at 1/2 speed) His...

Help needed getting this 750cc, 277 rephase running.

So let's start with a little history. I built this motor after building my first Tracker and was all hot to build a second hot rod and built this 750cc 277 rephased motor. A lot of other stuff then got in the way and this project has been in the corner for fourteen years. The lockdown/covid...

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

Thanks for all of your replys. Pre planning is the key. I did find the link on the hobby-machinist site and will try and read through it later. (Just so few hours in the day). I have been working on a vertical height gage idea with an indicator on it to pick up the same point on the head. It...

Is it my turn? Anything to do with lathes, mills and other shop tools

Ok guys here is a new item. Sorry to divert the old one. Does anybody have one of these mills? An x/y bed with no z. The head moves up and down on a six inch post. The problem is the quill only has a short travel so after you find an edge and maybe put a centre drill into the chuck, (I setup...
