I started riding in the mid 70's on a new '74 RD350 so I prefer the classic styling from that time period. I had more recently been looking at 70's Triuimphs and Nortons, and frankly found the lines on the XS650 more pleasing to my eye overall from the shape of the tank and seat to the sweep of the mufflers. Found a very nice '76 online, and imported my XS650 from North Carolina (I'm in CA) without ever having seen one up close. It still needed a lot of elbow grease and updating to get it where I wanted it. Front wheel almost bounces off the ground at idle but it smooths out quite a bit when riding.
