bad news, the bolt under the the rihht plug worked out, figure the head gasket would need to be changed, or checked. pulled it apart, found the tappet adjusters had backet right out on bothe intake rockers, started getting worried, tore it down some more and found a nice big hole in the cam...

    Sould I rewire?

i agree with the rewire, seems it's a bit of a phobia around here some times, but it's straight forward, and you only wire what you need.

    knife steel

case hardening is still used extensively in industry, in various forms, one of the biggest uses is gears, since you want the hard wear resistant tooth, but a tough core. one trick i used to make a bread knife useful when i was in colege was to selectively heat treat different parts of the...

Inexpensive voltmeter, monitor voltage while riding

i wonder why the ammeter fell out of style... is there a reason y'all are choosing volt meters vs. ammeters? is it just the ease of installation?

    knife steel

been doing alot of studies on metallurgy lately (went back to school to get my engineering degree), and howw you work and form the metals can be just as important as the choice of alloy. very interestig subject. the non-ferrous alloys get quite interesting too.

    Kicker travel

a word about heating and bending the kick levers, the metal does soften, i went through two "special" kick start levers bent before switching to a older model. the bent ones would bend and flex under kicking, were good for maybe two kicks before hitting something. (11.5 compression and 780cc...

well, figure i should update. since it was running well last summer i worked on getting it riding better, changed the swinarm bushings and put new shocks on. decided to put on mike's oil cooler, which is leaking a bit. also switched to a 1:2 intake, mostly for ease of carb access, i like the...

Rear disk brake causing wheel to torque sideways when braking

I was just going over the geometry in my head there, and i'm wondering if a worn brake stay bar will cause this behaviour... it seems that at nominal length the reaction force of the stay would cause the brake caliper assembly to rotate "backwards" (reaction is above or in line with the pads)...

Rear disk brake causing wheel to torque sideways when braking

i was having a similar problem last summer, it seems that there's nothing keeping the wheel forward but the chain. i tightened the axle up and it got better, but not perfect. i rebuilt the whole assembly over the winter, so we'll have to see once the snow clears up.
