    Still working on my carbs

OK I think I figured it out, at the bottom of the carb body where the main jet goes in is a recessed area with a lip, that should have a washer there for the main jet to go against right? well there is no washers on either carb. does any one know are they brass or just steel?

    Still working on my carbs

In my last post I said I ordered the Canadian needles from Mikes XS. You guys said I also needed the matching needle jets for my BS34 carbs. So I did what you told me, I got them slid the jets down in the carb, then when I screw in the main jet on the bottom tight I still get a little up and...

    which groove on new needles?

O.K. another question for my 80 XS650. Stock BS34 carbs, stock air filters, shorty mufflers with baffles. I ordered new slide needles from mikes XS, it says they were for the 1980 Canadian model so they are a little richer. So which groove do you gentlemen recommend I start with.

fuel screw o-ring or washer first

Ordered new fuel screws with spring, washer & o-ring. Exploded view of BS 34 carbs show the washer at the bottom, but Mikes XS says the o-ring goes underneath the washer. The old ones had the o-ring at the bottom. So starting at the top is it spring, washer then o-ring at the bottom?

    Jetting my 80 650

Thanks so much for your help, so what I'm going to do is pull the carbs and replace the boots that are looking old and cracked along with the seals on the butter fly shaft just to make sure I'm not getting an air leak. then go down on the main jets and put the stock pilots back in, then go from...

    Jetting my 80 650

Headers are 1.5" and I made sure the pilots were the right kind. So when go to give some throttle and just goes baaaaa and doesn't accelerate until I keep pumping the throttle, then when I get passed that first hesitation it goes fine. I have never understood how a stutter compares to a...

    Jetting my 80 650

Thanks for the reply. I have tried the mix screws all the way from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 3, 3.5 and 4. I can't get it to idle good enough to turn the screws while its idling. Its got to be the idle jets because it ran good stock and even with the new headers and 45 pilots until I put the baffles in...

    Jetting my 80 650

OK all you jetting experts, I'll try to make this short. 1980 XS650, stock carbs and air filters. Installed custom headers with shorty mufflers and put in 45 pilot jets and 145 main jets. Ran pretty good just a little popping off idle. mufflers too loud so installed baffles in the shorty...
