"My Left Foot" Electric Shorty Shifter by Boopduke posted Aug 28, 2019 at 9:30 AM"My Left Foot" Electric Shorty Shifter by Boopduke posted Aug 28, 2019 at 9:30 AM
Here are two separate installations of the same Pingel on the same bike. The red-tank bike maintains the footpeg (with the rubber...
I did not connect the ignition interrupter that came with the Pingel because I shift manually (using the clutch). I use the handlebar button to upshift, but I use the hand shift lever to downshift. Once you get used to it, it feels normal.
This is my 1979 XS650 Special II adapted for handicapped use. I have installed a Pingel electric shifter (with push button handlebar controls) where the left foot peg should be, and a highway bar for my left foot (since I can't bend my left leg). California license plate is HDCP 650...
Wide dirt-track handlebars for easy handling. Lightweight front disk and caliper from Mike's XS. Front fender from Mike's doubles as a fork brace. Front forks rebuilt by Race Tech with emulators and new springs. Front end lowered 1-inch by using a straight triple clamp. And the list goes on....
The gorgeous black tank is from Mike's XS. Two teeth added to the rear sprocket to lower the gearing and improve first-gear performance. Black Spiegler SST lines. The Road Runner ("Beep Beep") on the right side and Wiley Coyote on the tail light. Lettering by Bruce the Brush (Torrance, CA).
Electronic ignition and advance replace stock points and mechanical advance. Lightweight front disk and caliper from Mike's XS. License plate--HDCP650--says it all. All bulbs converted to LED. Shorty SuperTrapp muffler with only four discs installed looks good and is reasonably quiet.
Clutch converted to hydraulic with a Ducati slave cylinder and Magura hand lever. Highway bar installed for "My Left Foot." 19-inch Excel wheels front and rear and thin (3.50 front, 4.00 rear) tires for easy handling. Hand shifter for shifting into neutral (electric shifters don't know neutral).
I can't put my foot on the left foot peg so I can't shift a motorcycle. To compensate for this, I have installed a Pingel electric shifter on my 1979 XS650. The stock seat is recovered with 1-inch high density foam to lower it. Shorty shocks bring the seat height down to 28-1/2 inches.
Alright guys, we're off to a good start with the selection of bikes nominated so far. BUT we are only up to 10 bikes. Attached is a list of bikes I have so far– seconded and accepted. Please let me know if I missed one.
We could 1.) get two more bikes and call it a calendar or 2.) NOMINATE A...
19/19 and 21/21 definitely look better. Chopper types favor larger front wheels like the stock 19/18 setup. I tend to think that 18/18 looks better than 19/18, but that's purely a matter of taste. 21/21 looks best. Too bad, I'm interested in what handles best on the street (not the freeway).
