    Starting problems

Apologies, fellow XS650ers, I'm sure this topic has been hammered before, but please indulge me. My TX650A was always a good starter (it's unregistered, but I always started it monthly) and is still stock, other than 34mm Mikunis installed by Australia's XS650 guru himself. In January, it...

    Grimeca drum brake problems

Has anyone had any experience with the Grimeca 230mm four leading shoe front brake? I've installed a new one in my TX650A but there's a problem. The linked actuating arms on the left brake plate work fine when the brake lever is squeezed, but those for the right will not return to the 'resting'...

    Wanted - BS38 float bowl

Mikuni BS38: ideally, a right-hand carb float bowl in which the jets aren't permanent fixtures. For '74 TX650A. Would consider buying both bowls, if available, or at a pinch, a complete carb. Shipping would be to Australia.

    Worth a try?

I'm about to do some microsurgery on my TX650A BS38 carb to get out a stuck pilot jet. Once it's out, to prevent it happening with the new jet, I was thinking about using the Loctite anti-seize compound I use on other fasteners...especially unlike metals. It's a good brew. Has anyone done this...

    One of them Eureka moments...

I lived in Gainesville, in Florida, for a while when I was a young bloke.Since then, I've spent a bit of time in the USA, mainly in Alaska, and it hasn't escaped my attention that some American citizens own a firearm...sometimes even more than one. I'm still struggling with my TX650A...

    Throttle cable containment

On my TX650A, the throttle cables have L-shaped steel tube adjuster/shrouds as they enter the throttle drum. They're retained in the drum by what Yamaha describe as the '...holder, wire guide', held by a screw into the throttle drum housing. Flanges on both tubes seem to give the guide...

    And then it hit me...

I've been having heartache with my TX650A running rich - very rich. The plugs were heavy with carbon. I went through adjusting the needle position (aren't those teeny circlips loads of fun?) and looked at re-jetting mains: got some excellent advice from the forum, for which I'm eternally...

    Progressive fork springs:fitting hassles

I was just changing from stock TX650A fork springs to MikesXS finest progressives, and discovered the new ones are maybe four inches longer than the stockers! Given the TX650A has a long rolled steel cylindrical spacer between the spring top and fork cap, it's looking unlikely that I'll be able...

Erratic running - and I don't know why

A quick plug check showed my TX650A was running rich - carbon, not oil. I dropped the nedle jet one ring (fingers likes shovels aren't good with those tiny circlips) just like the good book says, and got a couple of leaner mains from Mike, although I haven't installed them yet. It fired OK, but...

    Advance mechanism removal problem

My TX650A advance mechanism isn't responding like it should: my three shop manuals all say remove the nut, and notched disk, loosen the ring nut with a punch and hammer, and '...slide the advance unit out.' (Progressively as the ring nut is looshed to prevent binding.) Trouble is, even with...

Front brake lever problem - or not?

I've just got a new pattern front brake lever for my '74 TX650A from a well-known specialist supplier, but the darn thing just won't fit properly. I had to slightly enlarge the hole in the lever to acomodate the lever fitting screw, but it just doesn't want to sit neatly in the lever so the...
