How many miles did you log in your xs650 for 2013?

I don't have an odometer on the 81 but rode it at least 2000 miles last summer back and forth to work at 20 miles each way. No reserve and the tank is pretty small so I keep a 5 gallon can handy on each end.

    nifty little voltage monitoring doo-dad

I have them on several bikes as well and they are particularly useful on the dual sports with less capable charging systems. The xs has a pamco and hugh's pma which has no problem keeping up with my heated gear and a couple of 55 watt lights.

    ??mikes xs 520 sprockets

It's been awhile since I installed mine and I don't recall the specifics but....... I used the sprockets from Mikes and found 1/8th inch thick washers that fit just right for shims. I'm not sure why I switched to the 520 chain, I know I wanted a larger front sprocket and maybe it provides a...

    Tracker Discussion

I bought this 81 last fall, it had a pamco and hughs pma installed but the tank, seat, lights, sidecovers were all gone. I pulled the plates and glass off of a tt500 that I own and used it for a commuter this winter. I originally planned to take it apart this spring but am now thinking of...

    neutral light install

I wired a small led neutral light in my dash, my bike is a work in progress but it's the small green light below and right of the volt meter. I also used the neutral ground switch on my electric starter to help avoid starting it in gear and having it hit the ground. fiveohindc.... I'm no...

    Dual sport advice.

I bought that old xr off craigslist on a total impulse for $1500, I'm 57 and the last dirt bike I bought was a Bultaco in the 70's I almost passed on it because I haven't kick started a bike in several decades, sure glad I didn't let that stop me, it starts in one kick every time and every...

    Dual sport advice.

This past year I put 17k miles on this 04 klr then bought the xr400 and took it on a three week ride to Mexico, up to Sturgis and back home to the northwest. Both inexpensive and dependable fun dual sports but very different in function. My suggestion is to try to decide how much highway...

    Omar tank

I don't kow the manufacturer of this tank, I pulled it off of a tt500 I bought last summer. It has held fuel without issue for about 5 months now? With summer coming I need to come up with some replacement glass for the tt and I figured to try a tank from Gopher Glass if anyone has a...

    electrics/wiring noob

I recently built a wiring harness for an 80 street tracker that I put together, I ordered a small mountain of bullet connectors. Deciding what goes where and running the wires cleanly is a fun project that can all be sorted out ahead of time or can be done like I did it on the figure out what...

    What's up at Mikes XS

I've had several orders in the past six months, service and time to get the product shipped has been excellent My reviews says you have a high probability of having things go great. One order they shipped the wrong item and it turned into a very frustrating son of a gun. I eventually received...

1K mile trip through the Washington/Oregon Gorge- lots of pics!

Great report, I've run through about every part of Oregon a few times on various trips to here and there. Beautiful state but out there in the Bend, Burns, McDermitt area the 55 mph speed limit can be a tough one to comply with, particularly when every other car goes by at about 100...

Having trouble shifting....last stop before build is finished

I'm about the last guy on here that should be offering mechanical advice but having recently put a bought in boxes project on the road .... I agree most bikes / manual transmissions in general won't smoothly go through the all of the gears with the engine off and nothing being turned so yours...

    Handle bar control options?

Omar's website has a two position kill switch that looks pretty functional. I have a baja designs kit on another bike and I wouldn't recommend their unit, it is smaller than stock but with winter gloves the turn signal button is a bit too small. I bought an inexpensive unit on ebay "around...

    another starter thread

Hopefully someone will respond that knows the answer, I've just put a project on the road and my starter also stays engaged for a bit after startup.

    UNDER 2 GRAND

I hauled this home a few weeks back, as it looks now I'll have it on the road at about the 1K mark including transfer and tabs, the tank and rear fender/seat are on loan from my 500. I suspect I'll change a few things and and throw more money at it down the road. It has hugh's pma and a pamco...

    Question about 520 chain changeout

Thank you all for the excellent answers, I'll see what I sort out this coming week. This project was bought in boxes and chain and sprockets are the last step before I can take it around the block and see what I have. I did a fair amount of searching and reading last night and I'm questioning...

    Question about 520 chain changeout

I'm moving along on my budget tracker and today the 520 sprockets and chain arrived from Mikes. I've sent off an email but thought I would see of I could get some clarification here. The new front sprocket is much thinner than the 530 sprocket was, I expected it to have a built up shoulder...

    new to the forum

Welcome to the forum, I'm new myself. Sounds like your building up a street tracker. I'm working up a low budget one myself and have been eyeing the front tire that's on my shorttrack bike, it's a Maxxis and hopefully someone here will respond as to how well they would work on the road...
