It wasn't very clear in this manual and I don't think I have actually seen a B8ES. Good to know I have the right one installed now. thanks 5 :)

    spark plug confirmation please

Thanks for the clarification Pete Bike is running great and the plugs are clean but I just wanted to be sure. My Haynes (not Clymer...DOH!) manual shows "B-8ES" then beside it shows "BP-7ES" (for C models) In the front page of the manual , it shows C models as '74-'77 so it left me to assume...

    spark plug confirmation please

I have a 1980 XS650 Special and the Clymer manual seems to indicate a BP8ES spark plug. This is a non resistor type but NGK shows a replacement as a BPR8ES.(R is resistor type) Currently I'm running BP7ES with Mike's XS "high output" coil. I suspect the 7 is a bit on the hot side. What is the...

    Bike is too loud.

I use the Mike's Commando Style and it works well and sounds great! Priced quite reasonably.

    Custom Microphone Taillight

Instead of working with resin, why try the gel that is used in the professional lighting industry? Lee and Rosco are the manufacturers and available in music stores and photo shops.

Now Heres a Stumper!! Anyone ever come across this??!!

Noel, try what weekendrider suggests by unplugging the headlight and try the switch. Also, try what others suggest as well. If you need help, I am in Toronto.

    650 Central jet kit

I read the Minton Mods. Thanks for the link. Interesting info there but nothing on the drilling. It would be better to get all the info before drilling holes in my sliders. However, it looks like larger bore carbs would be useful on my 1980 Special.

    650 Central jet kit

I see on 650 Central there is a"650 Central Premium BS34 Jet Kit" It mentions a drill for for slide dampening modification This was something that came up in tuning the Hawk NT650 but I havn't seen anything pertaining to Mikuni 34s on the XS650. Anyone done any drilling to modify slides?

    XS650 Direct

I too am looking for parts in Canada and find it odd that the US arm of Mikes has the parts and the Canadian distributor can't seem to find a "supplier" ??? Seems clear to me there is supply and demand. Evidently, the US distributor can seem to get the parts. How is it that parts can't be...

    Top end tapping sound

I have a similar problem and will check for the damper washer. Is it supposed to go between the spring and adjuster sleeve?

    i have NO front brake!

You will stop short in life :) I just can't figure out people who go without a front brake. However. the choice is theirs to make.(not trolling...) I have 4 different bikes with brakes in perfect working order and none of them will stop anywhere near as fast on the rear brake as on the front.

Hand signals- people don't know what they mean

The 18 yr old driver"accidentally" didn't know the basics and executed a bad pass and the bike rider "accidentally"didn't have a helmet. :wtf:

    Ground cable??

I do pretty much the same but run the ground to the headlight bucket from the negative on the battery.

need help with electrical.. way over my head

When you find the right diagram, take the file over to an office supply store and have them print an 11x17 copy and have it laminated. Easy to read and won't get grease prints on it.:)

    Grounding Hogs Day

As stated, you need to run a ground wire from the negative battery terminal to the engine to get spark and allow the electric starter to work. As for other grounding, I support the "bring it back to one point"solution. This helps prevent having to hunt down "bad grounds"somewhere on the frame...

Another jetting question : commando exhaust system

I have an '80 Special with the same exhaust but Uni foam filters and the Canadian needles and needle jets. Stock idle jets. Tried main jets from 130 up to 145 and ended up at 132.5 (stock) The 140's made the bike run like crap at full throttle. It seems to like the 132.5 to 135. Been...

    Anyone run rear drum only

I can't even understand a debate about justifying the use of rear brake only. Usually the need for hard braking is precipitated by events outside the riders control. But, if you want it and it's legal in your state, knock yourself out.
