    75b Rear Wheel Redo

Just make sure you don’t accidentally throw away the rear wheel bearing spacer. Easy enough to do:banghead: It’s only sold by 650 Central unless like with me, another forum member comes through.

    Early clutch question

I noticed on the last set I bought all the fibers were under 3mm. I think they were around 2.7ish and I had no issues. It was a 7 plate comversion so I had to swap out the steels as well.

    Mikuni Carbs

Terry, question about those air filters. Does the perforated metal give a good enough airflow at high revs? Just asking cuz I don’t know?

Uh-oh...If I dood it, I get in trouble!

I don’t know what those would run you but tires, like everything else, are stupid priced. I just put 4 on my Super Duty and that was a $1400 hit…..

    Potential bobber build

My suggestion would be look at styles and determine what you like. Then take into consideration what would be comfortable for you to ride. My first bobber build came out great but I realized that being a taller person I didn’t really fit it. FF a few years later I ended up changing the frame...

    Hard shifting and slipping

I agree with Marty. It sounds like a clutch issue. I was having slipping issues but all my fiber plates spec’d out good however seeing as they had been soaking in oil for 50 yrs I went ahead and swapped them out. No issues now and shifting is smoother with a much deeper friction zone.

    Has anyone heard from Jpdevol

I also had to check on Beags64 a few weeks back for another members inquiry. Maybe we need to start a milk carton thread.

    Faulty master cylinder?

If it wasn’t new I would say take it apart as it sounds like something is plugged but since it’s new definately get a replacement.

    Head race bearings

The only issue is the extra gap at the headlight ears that is easily cured by adding an o-ring

    Head race bearings

I agree with 5t. I’ve done several of the conversions and what a difference. If not I probably have a set of XS2 bearings I can send you.

    Bleeding the Brakes

I’ve had Emgo rebuild parts that I used in an MC that would lose pressure, sometimes out of the blue. A quick pump and it would return but I was nervous that wouldn’t work one day so I just cleaned up the OEM guts in another MC I had and problem solved so yeah, I don’t trust their MC parts.

What have you done to your XS today?

Another small task done. Replaced the muffler gaskets on the ‘75. The threads on the cap or on the mufflers was barely holding but it worked well enough to fit the gaskets. Been procrastinating that little job for a long time and it only took about 30 min to do both sides. I was lucky because on...

    1977 XS650

Turning it over shouldn’t hurt it but yea, before you worry about pulling that starter I would check function. If it spins then work backward from there.

Have you tried jumping the starter directly to the battery? That starter isn’t that bad to get at but you have to take your time.

What have you done to your XS today?

When I rebuilt my ‘75 the right fork tube had some pitting from sitting outside for years but I was hoping it was high enough on the tube to not plunge past the seal. Well it was too low and everytime the forks compressed those pits were like an oil reservoir everytime they came up. I’ve had a...
