    MikesXS BS38 Carb Boots

Does anyone have a suggestion for good carb boots to replace the OG ones? I bought a set of boots off of Mikes XS, but they aren't notched in the same place as the originals, and the vacuum barb sits higher and is really tight to the valve cover. In addition, it seems like the carbs don't sit as...

What is everyone using to keep things like the acorn nuts and other chrome bits shiny and rust free?

I had the same issue. It was the aftermarket carb boots.

    Don't skimp, buy oem!

These ones are metal out toward the flanges but aaalllll rubber in the bottle. That was the first thing I thought, that I over tightened

Great idea wherearewe. I never even knew that site existed. It also helps me to support my local shop, which I'm big on.

    Don't skimp, buy oem!

Recently I had an issue with my rpms taking off. Very air leak-y kind of behavior. I pulled the timing rod and greased it, replaced the timing advance springs, replaced the enricher seals, replaced the throttle shaft seals,(twice!), And cleaned and rejetted the carbs. I hopedh on the bike today...

    Does this make sense?

I was still leaking air around the inner parts of the throttle shaft. Just to be sure I'm not being a complete moron and missing something, does anyone have the order of parts for the throttle shaft assembly for 79 bs38's? Maybe I dropped a washer on the floor and overlooked it or something...

    Does this make sense?

I'll order some of those Suzuki ones to have on hand. I slapped my carbs back together and they're on the bike, so I'll swap things out the next rainy day. Based off of the crap-ass Western Pennsylvania weather we've been having, that won't be long from now!

    Does this make sense?

Yeah, I read a handful of other forum posts that recommended against Mike's. I've had some really bad luck with stuff from Mike's lately. Like my timing advance springs. The ones from Mike's didn't pull the bob weights back in fast enough so I had to hunt out OEM Yamaha ones on ebay.

While doing more investigating, it seems as if I have an air leak somewhere in the vicinity of the throttle shaft on the right side too. New seals are on their way!

They are, indeed the plastic capped ones. I'll toss the original jets in and see what happens this weekend and will check that air vent while I have the carbs off.

    Does this make sense?

Unfortunately, no. I went and bought mikuni jets. I even checked and double checked to make sure the metering orifices were in the right place. I'm going to give those threads a read through now. Thanks, guys!

    Does this make sense?

'79 special with stock pipes and uni foam air filters. I went up 1 size on my pilot and main and dropped the needle one clip (leaner). Bench synced the carbs. Bike starts up right away but idle is rough. RPMs climb even after putting a set of OEM Yamaha advance springs on. When setting the...

    Post rejetting question

I just ordered a set of 137.5's to see how they work out. The foam UNIs are the only mod as I'm running stock exhaust. I'm kind of enjoying this rejetting stuff!
