    PAMCO Timing

It seems like there is not a definitive answer on the forum, so I wanted to pull some of the experts. I have a PAMCO on my bike w/ e-advance, battery and PMA. The bike will start and run but, I'm having one issue. When I tested the timing with my timing gun it looks like the timing is just off...

    Stranded! Coil or Pamco?

As I mentioned in the past, I've been dealing with some flat spot issues. After leaning my needle jet, I took her on a nice ride last night. About 34 miles into my ride, putter putter putter. Bike just dies. Take a run over to autozone, grab some new plugs... no spark. This would lead me to...

Right Exhaust Not Getting Hot at IDLE

Wanted to pull the group on this issue. Per my other recent posts - I'll be test riding one of my XS's to see if the "flat spot" has been fixed, an issue I've been trying to resolve. Once I do, I will report back on that post so that I don't leave everyone hanging wondering what the problem was...

Almost got her tuned juuuuust right

Wanted to pull the group on this. I think 5twins might be getting annoyed at my constant inbox messages; even though he has helped immensely in getting one of my three XSs' back on the road! I'm thinking he will still probably chime in when he sees this... 1978 XS650, BS38s. Recently, installed...

Weekend Hangout - Goldmine or hoarding problem?

So, I'm pretty new to the forum and with the help of a lot of people on here, (especially 5TWINS), I've been able to resolve a lot of the issues on my "cursed" XS. I have literally gone through hell and back fixing a good amount of parts on the bike that were just completely ruined by the PO...

    Seal? Need part #

Went ahead and installed my PAMCO this weekend. Looks as if I have some slight oil leaks on both the right and left side of the motor where the points and advance used to be. I'm looking to get a kit so that I can replace every darn seal on the bike, but mainly the one in the image attached...

    Leaking Carburetor...Solved

I wanted to just share how I was able to solve the issues I was having that was causing gas to leak out of my carburetor when my petcocks were turned to on. I say petcocks because my 1978 XS650 w/ BS38s had two vacuum type petcocks. One on each side of the tank. I have come to the conclusion...

    Loss of power, PAMCO

Recently, I've been experiencing some difficulties. In 3rd and 4th gear, all of a sudden I loose power and when I hit the throttle I go nowhere. The bike still runs, but it sort of bogs down. I'm not sure if it runs on one cylinder or what. One time while this happened I even blew my main 15 amp...

    Death to the RATTLE!

I've had my XS for about 3yrs. replacing / upgrading as time / money allows. I've found (and I'm sure everyone agrees) the deathly rattle of these bikes cause a lot more harm than good. It's become customary that I tighten everything before I take my bike for a ride. After a long talk with my...

Tacho / Right Clutch Case - help wanted

I don't have an RPM gauge and don't plan on using one. The PO removed the cable complete and put some weird copper plumbing screw in place of the tach drive retention bolt. I know it is smart to keep the hole for testing etc, but I still don't plan on using it. Question: Can I remove the gear...

    Flames out of exhaust?

It took me a while to get my XS650 running right. With the help of everyone on this forum, luckily, I think I finally got her running the way she should be. With continuous changes to the carburetor, I finally think I figured out the perfect set up. First I adjusted my cam chain to spec, timing...

    Clutch lever tight after reassembly

I was out riding the other day and my clutch cable snapped. I replaced it with one from Mikes XS. Once I put the clutch cover back on and screwed the clutch adapter screw all the way in the handle is very very tight. So tight that I could barely squeeze it. Thoughts? Thanks, Vince

Leaky Carbs - looking for quick help

Read through the carb guide already but looking for some additional opinions. I have a bunch of gas leaking into my uni pod filters. My float level is adjusted perfectly so I know that's not the issue. My seats are also clean. I'm thinking it's just these shotty vacuum petcocks even though I...
