CruzinImage BS38 carburetor floats -- Review

Ouch, just checked the price for Yamaha’s float. Doesn’t the XS650 use standard Mikuni floats? You can get the standard Mikuni float for a lot less if someone can figure out which one is correct. See:http://jetsrus.com/float_and_float_pin/a_float_and_float_pin_yamaha.html

    Radiation in light bulbs?

From what I’ve read, its the LED drive circuits that cause the emission problems. The US FCC has rules governing it. You might be referring to compact fluorescent light bulbs. They use an electronic ballast that can cause interference problems.

    Scotch Whiskey

I used to be a fan of Haig & Haig Scotch Whisky (without the “e”). But the PA state stores don’t stock it anymore, so I moved on a found a good bourbon whiskey (with an “e”).

    Frame Asymmetry - why?

In 1972, the cat’s meow of calculators was the HP-35. The XS650 engineers likely would have been thrilled to be using one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP-35

Will electric vehicles doom your neighborhood auto mechanic?

Bloomberg had a recent article that discussed the future of EV. They are expecting price parity in around 8 years, where gas & EV cars will be around the same price. That’s the tipping point.

Roadster charges $200 for the SH847.http://www.roadstercycle.com I don’t know of anyone that sells the SH775, but the SH775 is used by several bike/atv/etc manufacturers. Polaris is one that I am aware of. Polaris part # 4012941 is the SH775. It retails for $180. A few eBay retailers have it...

suggestions for best reg/rec for PMA

A shunt regulator/rectifier operates the alternator at maximum current output and controls the bike’s DC voltage by sending the excess current to ground. This heats up the alternator & can shorted its life. A series regulator/rectifier allows the alternator AC voltage to vary and control’s the...

What is the coldest temp / worst weather you ever rode in?

From my stupid idiot young kid days, I remember ridding my new GT380 to work & using the clutch to coast across a sheet of ice covering the road. Nowadays when its that cold & icy, I push the little button that turns the Jeep seat heater on.

    Two stroke memories

Nice RD! What model year is it? Also, one of the manufacturers figured out how to do direct fuel injection for low $$$ via the transfer ports. With a bit of luck they might come out with some new bikes for the old-guy two stroke crowd.

Damn Insurance Companies rule the world!

Getting back to the original topic… A friend is in a similar situation with important medical issues. Recently got noticification from his insurance company that he had to switch medications because his expensive medications would no longer be covered. He took the info to his specialist & they...

Should I just powder coat the rims?

Thanks for the tip on powder coat & brake fluid. Those wheels are for a Suzuki so they wouldn’t do you much good. Having rims + hubs black powder coated isn’t all that expensive. Having them polished & clear coated was a good bit more. I tried polishing myself but I wasn’t all that good at it...

Should I just powder coat the rims?

That rim looks nice. Black powder coat is another option. These are 80% gloss black that we did for a cafe project. Cafe-GT250-0390 by jabcb, on Flickr

Should I just powder coat the rims?

Powder coated rims are easier to nick up when you mount tires. Do you have someone to mount the tires that’s worked with powder coating before? Or have you?

    1997 suzi gs750 rotor

The early GS your friend has might either have a rectifier/regulator, or separate rectifier & regulator. In either case, the stock parts are the shunt type that operate the alternator at full current output at all times. It controls voltage by sending the excess current to ground. The modern...
