    Eliminating electonics on the handlebars

The switches are from the source (radio shack for you guys) the part numbers might be in one of my threads. If not, I will look for them tomorrow. The plate is just 7/8 or 1" pipe cut and drilled and tapped in with small flush mount machine screws.

    Eliminating electonics on the handlebars

I don't knew if it's the look you are going for, but I was able to keep everything on my bars mounted using micro toggles and momentary switches. You can check out my pics and see it on there. Kill and start on right. Turns and horn on the left. Headlight high/low/off in the middle.

Russell Street Legal Brake Line Question

I just bought all new braided stainless brake lines from Russell for my '80 xs. The question I am having is if there is anything that needs to be done to the ends before threading the ends on? Any thread seal or anything? I know teflon won't hold up but is there something similar to that that...

Ignition Upgrade Questions (pamco, boyer, coils)

one more question regarding the upgraded ignition coils. How do I choose the right wires to go with the coil? The coil options I mentioned ealrier are from the parts unlimited catalogue. It shows wires ranging from 7mm to 8.8mm. What should I be looking for in wires and caps? Also, can anybody...

Ignition Upgrade Questions (pamco, boyer, coils)

Thanks for your help Leo, I have a clear inline filter I bought from Mikes. I have never seen and garbage in the filter. I will pull the carbs off again and clean them throughout again...since there is over a foot of snow on the ground I won't be riding anytime soon.

Ignition Upgrade Questions (pamco, boyer, coils)

I was thinking a carb problem initially, or a gas issue. I ran some Seafoam through it and let it work through the system, took some time, and eventually the pipe from the non-firing side starting throwing some white smoke, cleared up and ran fine. Went for a ride, everything was going well. Put...

Ignition Upgrade Questions (pamco, boyer, coils)

I have a 1980 xs special with stock TCI ignition, charging system, reg/rect. I have open 1-1/2" pipes with washers in them. Rejetted pilot and mains. Plugs are in decent shape (maybe a little lean if anything) Carbs were stripped and cleaned in the spring. I have had some intermittent issues...

rejetted my carbs....gas started to piss out uni filter

I didn't do the fuel lines, but I will definitely add that to the list. Any idea why it would all of a sudden fix itself when I switched the jetting back. I did the o-rings when I cleaned out the carbs this season. Would the jetting that I proposed make sense? Up on the main, lean the jet and...

rejetted my carbs....gas started to piss out uni filter

I rejetted my carbs because the plugs were reading rich. I have an '80 xs650 (SG, i believe) stock CDN needles, uni filters, 2-1 exhaust, jets are: pilot= 45, needle is CDN in middle slot (stock) and main is 132.5. I switched out the mains to 135 and moved the clip up one notch on the needle...

    Just wanted to say thanks!

thanks guys, much appreciated. I figured there is a lot of black or grey bikes and since I got it powdered instead of paint due to finances, I couldn't really do anything extravagant with the paint. So, cream and black.....possible minimalist pin stripe work later on.

This bike is the bane of my existence!! Free canadian beer to anybody coming to help!

As of right now, upping the pilot one size is all i have done and synced the carbs. Unfortunately I am still waiting for the tank to be painted so i can't actually take it out and open it up to see how the mains and needle are. I do have the adjustable needle but I haven't installed it yet...

    Fine tuning carbs, need clarification.

I just want to be sure I am doing all this right while battling with these carbs. Let's assume that cam tensioner, valves, charging system and electrical are all ok. Step 1- bench sync carbs using small feeler gauge, guitar string, etc Step 2- (this is where I am getting confused) adjust...

This bike is the bane of my existence!! Free canadian beer to anybody coming to help!

Getting the bike a lot closer . I opened it all up. Cleaned everything I had doubts about and installed a 45 pilot jet. Kept adjusting and got the sync pretty close I think. Now, for some reason the starter doesn't lag which is AWESOME. When it is set up where it should be, the starter fires it...

This bike is the bane of my existence!! Free canadian beer to anybody coming to help!

and after reading the carb guide, things that stuck out in my mind from the vid were exhaust hanging or slow to return to idle, after rolling off throttle, popping from exhaust, and possibly a lean misfire. So with stock jetting would an increase by 1 size on my pilot make sense?
