    We are back on hold for awhile ............ that carb problem went away for about 3 days and is now back with a vengeance. Big Jim is comeing down from the reservation, says he is gonna remove the bad spirits or something????? About to part this bike out !!!! You know ... spread the evil !! John

    That would take care of part of it ....... wonder what it would take to convert the rear to a disc brake. Not what I wanted to do, but after looking on eBay and not seeing any drum rear wheels, I may have to. Any idea what it takes to ship a wheel these days ?? Big bucks ?? John

    I have the wheels from my 75 XS650-B, that I would like to trade for a set of mags. Need the rear to have a drum brake, really don't wanna convert to disc rear. I also have a set of XJ550 mags to sell or trade for something. I would of course chip in on the shipping. I dunno, anybody interested...

    I've got the opposite problem, trying to find mags, with a drum rear wheel. I really do not want to convert to disc brake rear. Anybody wanna trade ?? My 1975 has spoked aluminum "H" rims 19 front and 18 rear and we want mags. oh well John

    I am lost on this .............

    I bought a bunch of stock jets from Mikes, and made sure they were right. Something I was curious about, I was looking at some exploded views of these carbs, could the seals on the butterfly shafts be causing all the tail chasing I am doing on this damn bike ????? What are they, just O-rings ?

    Checked floats, checked fuel levels .............. Black sooty plugs and filthy black sooty exhaust. I am getting lost on this. It ram great all summer, then in the matter of about 6 weeks things went wrong fast. I have a chart that was sent to me by someone that shows what came from the factory...

    no, I didnt think about doing any valve work, while it was apart. Main concern was stopping oil leaks. It pops like it is running lean, just the black poofy crap on the plugs look anything but lean ........ maybe I aint smart enough for this bike ???

    Last november my XS starting to pop thru the carbs. When the motor was cold. Just a little worse each time I started it and it stopped when it warmed up. Then it became almost unrideable from the popping. Since I had lots of little oil leaks, I figured it was time to clean out the carbs and...

    Number question

    Just kinda curious ......... how does having matching numbers ( frame and motor, same number ) effect the value of a 1975 XS650 ?, and why ?? Looking at buying another here abouts, but the owner wants way too much for his dead hulk ............... :confused: Opinions ?? Thanks John

    To start or not to start ....................

    Ended up pulling the motor out of the bike to get the studs out, so the starter could be removed .............. Why would the P.O. do something that annoying/stupid ?.

    Removed the four bolts ?? ............. Two people, who have been into Motorcycles since the 1970s. we ended up pulling all the motor mount bolts except the bottom one, the exhaust and the chain and rocked the motor forward. then we could get to all the Studs !!!. NO BOLTS ......... STUDS ...

    I pulled my motor, trying to stop some nagging oil leaks. Base gasket was leaking like it wasn't there.
