Hi Randy, I recently got a Delkevic 2-1 and so far so good. Appears to be of reasonably good quality, stainless steel. Not too loud for a 2-1 either. You can google em for different vendors, customer reviews, and here is one on Amazon...
I bought my 1980 TCI earlier this year and its always had a hesitation at speed, around 3K rpm. This string and others on the forum have been great in helping me troubleshoot the issue. As I was doing the tests detailed here by bpeckm, I noticed that my pickup coils described in response #6 were...
OK thanks for the link, sounds like I need to drain my oil before anything else. Argh! I estimate that MAYBE it was an 1/8-1/4 of an oz at the most. Could have been much less than that but no way was it more.
One of the plugs was a bit fouled -moist more than fouled per se. I had just cleaned...
I got my new seat and wanted to share the outcome. Texavina was good to deal with. Quick on email and shipping was fast too even with the delay getting here from Vietnam. Install was straightforward, sprayed the hinge bolts as suggested to get off old seat and all went together just fine. Seat...
Thanks Azman, I do not have a compression gauge but did the other steps you suggested. Both pistons are rising to the same level and all the valves are opening and closing properly. Even checked valve clearances though not sure a symptom would show up there..all clearances are correct.
Does...
Hi All, Doh!! Im almost embarrassed to be posting this one. I got my moto running but could tell the carbs were off so I made the manometer w 3/16" tube, yardstick and some brake fluid since thats what I had.
1980 Special with vacuum ports on both carbs. I hooked up the tubing on each side...
Thanks guys, Im in luck with the ar$e humping because I dont usually like having passengers on my motos. I found they either throw my balance off or sit back there freakin out the whole ride :). On the other hand, I dont want a humpback style cafe seat just in case I do come across a cute...
Hi hogfest, I recently installed these front/rear turn sigs from Dime City. Just hook your one wire to the power going to loom. If you don't have a 2nd existing ground wire from old signals, create a new wire and ground it. Then plug your new ground wire into the 2nd connector on new turn sigs...
I want to replace the seat on my 1980 Special II. It has the side hinges which per the forum, this string 1980 Special II with hinges, I should be able to use the following seat from Texavina: 1978-79 Special seat
Am I correct on this? Any thoughts or concerns on whether this will fit, any...
$4.95 sounds great to me. You can now have extras for the next 24 times you pull out your jets :). OR, you can go spend hours being frustrated trying to hunt 2 O rings down at the local HW shops that are the right size and save $4 :)
Cha Ching! I took the ground cable sheath off to inspect entire length, as well as the terminals, for any corrosion or damage. Cable was clean and shiny, and the terminals were secure w no corrosion. Cleaned it up, put sheath back on and double wrapped it with electrical tape. I scraped off a...
Others might have a specific idea, but in the States a good hardware store with large selection of nuts/bolts/etc will also carry some o rings...here in Hawaii the Ace Hardware Store has some, but none that fit my VWs.
Hi Guss good to hear your making progress!
I have some old VWs too (67 squareback and a 70 camper bus) and their carbs also have the rubber O rings..they easily get damaged especially when removing jets to clean etc. They like to get stuck in the passage but like Skull says just hook them out...
Thanks guys, I will pull the ground wire as soon as I can break from work today and inspect it. I will clean the terminals and the ground connection on frame too.
Retired Gentleman, I did have taillight coming on before and when I had my original problem. Once I switched relays after I THOUGHT...
Another way I could ask this is simply: What would I have to do, I think by mis-wiring something, to now have 12.5v going to all my wiring including ground wires? For example all the positive and ground wires on my tail light and turn signals are now showing 12.5v with the key on.
Hi All, OK per some of the first suggestions I looked more closely at battery itself and the battery box -found that I had not attached the two front supports that holds box in place so when I sat on it the box was pushed down -Doh!. I noticed that it was squeezing the cable from starter relay...
Hey guys thanks for all this feedback. I am going to pull each fuse one by one and check for any symptom differences to see if it helps isolate the issue.
I haven't tested for spark yet, figuring that I wont be able to with the electrical cutting off right when I hit the starter button or try...
Thanks 2M! I replaced the old fuse box with a temporary setup of ATC fuses but not an actual ATC fuse box -just a separate in-line fuse holder for each of the four fuses. I carefully wired/insulated each connection and taped em up so I think the wire terminal connects are okay. Plan was/is to...
Hi All, I bought a 1980 XS650 Special a few months ago in running shape but with alot of rust. Interestingly, according to the VIN it was the 7th bike to roll off production in 1980 which is kinda cool.
It had been `stored' for last several years under a tarp here in Hawaii. Ive been cleaning...
