I had a chance today to look further into my shifting problem and found that the large spring that springs it back is bent I believe.

when it locks, the wheel is what locks. it has done it with the engine running or off. after it wouldn't downshift the second time I tried to reposition in in my shop and it would not roll backwards with the clutch in and not running. it would only roll backwards after I removed the clutch.

I just got the bike last fall. I know the clutch is new because I removed it. prior to the problem the clutch worked fine.

when trying to downshift to second it will not even shift down at all. and never got it in neutral after that. I removed the side cover and clutch assembly and can downshift it then.

By locked up I meant while rolling backward in neutral it would lock up, but could roll it forward with no problem. the first time it did it was in first gear and rolling out of a driveway with the clutch pulled in. the clutch is new and works smooth. It took off fine and ran through the gears...

the kick starter works like it should, and does return like it should

Let me ask you this,,, why would it lock up rolling backwards in neutral. It done that a few times after I bought it, but after rolling it forward a couple feet it would be fine, it only locked up going backwards tho.
