    Clutch assembly, what does this wire do?

    Hi all, I am working on an 81 xs 650 clutch and came across a ring/wire that was not in a previous clutch assembly my dad did on his 77 xs 650. I was hoping someone might know its purpose? (It wraps around and is secured where im pointing with a screwdriver)
