    Whats your weather right now?

We got 5 inches of rain last night. A town not too far from here got 12 inches.

As another Gary on this site, I approve of the cartoon above.

Well, that looks fun. And pinchy.

Getting the ‘57 beetle back on the road in 2024

These pictures make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I miss having a bug.

Getting the ‘57 beetle back on the road in 2024

Now tube dune buggys are a whole different creature. I spent many a days riding around the El Paso desert in a tube buggy that my friend Fred built.

Getting the ‘57 beetle back on the road in 2024

The one you've pictured there looks to have a shortened pan (chassis) on it which was common for a lot of the bodys that were available. The bodys that fit a full length vw chassis are the dune buggys that had four full seats.

Getting the ‘57 beetle back on the road in 2024

There were a lot of different dune buggy companies in the 70s. Bug engines are so easy to swap that a lot of them don't have matching numbers. My son wants a Manx soooo bad (I raised him right).

Getting the ‘57 beetle back on the road in 2024

Found this on aircooled.net "Pope’s Nose Commonly used slang term for the taillight housing on Split Window Beetles from 1943 -1952, however it was still used by some until 1966." I will back you up if you say it's a pope's nose on your bug.

My first foray into not just one but two 1975 RD350's

Will be watching this. My first real street bike was a 77 Silver RD400. Pipes, carbs, ported, a TZ250 fairing with rearsets and clipons. Man I loved that bike. This is what it looked like before I modded it out. (not my bike in the pic)

    A poll about model-building posts

Love me some models and dioramas. Once I get an area set up in the house along with a desk to build on, I'll start posting about building the motorcycle models I bought in Japan back in the late 80s.

If I remember correctly, a 57 Bug has a "Pope's Nose" license plate light, right?

    WTF pictures

That is an awesome RC. I got to see the SR71 take off and land at Kadina Air Force base back in the late '80s. It is quite awe inspiring to see it take off, get about 1500 feet up and then climb vertically disappearing into the cloudcover. A couple of F16s and a refueler always took off in...

    Horn

I believe you have the Hella Loud model horn.

Lunar soft landing, 2-22-2024 fingers crossed.

I've been following this story and seems that the solar panels are pointing in the wrong direction after the tip over. Supposed to run out of battery power sometime today. Man, I'd hate to be at that root cause analysis meeting after all this is over.

    Van Go

I enjoy looking through this thread. Right after I got out of the motorcycle mechanic business, I built custom vans for 2 years.

    Helmets, I didn't know that!

I worked at a Yamaha shop back in the late '70s. We had $10 helmets on the counter for sale. Every now and then we'd had a customer pick one up and say, "Are these $10 helmets any good?" The parts guy would say, "If you got a $10 head." We had one we kept behind the counter, after saying that...

    My next Yamaha project

Looks fantastic. Now you need to build a chopper out of the second bike leftover pieces.

Not my style but man I'm impressed

I was just impressed with the execution of all the changes. The triple tree with the mountain bike clamp and bars (I ride mountainbikes), the foot hydraulic clutch, the linkage suspension for the seat.
