    Electrical updates for reduced space

On the Reg/Rec contact Rick's and ask to talk with Richard. I took the advice from someone to order a specific part from Rick's and I did not talk to them. The part I ordered was actually for a Honda which made things a bit tricky. However, I called Richard and he walked me through a...

    Electrical updates for reduced space

Your suggestions were very helpful. Thanks for the recommendation to contact Ricks. They really helped me out and things are coming together. Been out the last few months doing remodeling with my son. So the bike project was resting for a bit. Now that I am back into the wiring updates, I'm...

    XS650 drop seat shocks

The original shock was 13". I lowered the subframe by about 3". So, the distance from the swingarm pivot to the shock top mount is less. With the change in height and the more forward angled shock a 10-1/2" keeps the neutral swing arm position in the same place. A 10-1/2" shock has about 2"...

    XS650 drop seat shocks

Thanks for the advice. The intent is to build a simple short range street cruiser. So, ultimately it will be a bar hopper. I don't think I'll be in the saddle on this one for more than 1-1/2 hrs. at a time.

    XS650 drop seat shocks

I’m working on a little drop seat project and I am looking for a couple good shock recommendations to consider. Looks like I need 256mm or 280 mm shocks. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

    Electrical updates for reduced space

That's very nice work. I agree that the Rec/Reg should be out in the wind. I already picked up a Rec/Reg from Mike's XS that plugs into the stock harness. I have no idea if it works with Lithium batteries or not. But I have my suspicions. Fortunately I can still return it. I looked on...

    Electrical updates for reduced space

I am working on my first chopper/bobber build, a 1972 XS650 Electric, and beginning the planning of the electrical system. I am staying old school, running with the original Stator/Generator and points. The frame is modified for a drop seat. So, I have a little less room for the battery etc. I...

    XS 650 B Tappet Adjustment

This is my first old school Yamaha. I've been tinkering mostly with Harleys since "93". So a little rattling wont be an issue. LOL

    XS 650 B Tappet Adjustment

I am rebuilding a 1972 XS650 B and I am ready to adjust the tappet spacing. My understanding is that the manual's exhaust spec of 0.3 is noted in error. Unfortunately, I am seeing a variety of recommendations. I do know that because the 256 motor cams are different, I cannot use the spec for...

    just starting....

I am in the midst of doing the same to my "72". I think the Visual Impact kit looks most like your pic. I do believe that by the time you lower the seat 1-1/2" - 2" and roll the shock forward, you will also need to go with a shorter shock. I am thinking I'll need one that is 267mm on center...
