This is the OEM tail light on my 1975. Before and after I refinished it. Yes, I saved this Tail light. It was up in the air for a while. Managed to sand off my fingerprints too.
This is what it look like today. (day34). The 77 gauges will be replaced when i get a set for 1975. Tank too is incorrect. It takes time to build a work of art.
I want to ride this season. I can make the build correct over time.
This was the day I brought home my new love. I intend to save this bike and make it beautiful. The parts, at this point, will be what I have on hand.
But the final version will be A 1975.
Looks pretty good. Better than I started with. I would be happy to figure out something on all your 75 parts.
Here's what I have to work with. I will post a pic when I finish it. I'm going to try to save it.
I know you want to sell the light to me. That's not fair. So beautiful, I've been looking for that light for years. I started gathering parts for my build years ago.
As bikes came though my shop I would sometimes keep something I wanted for my build. My business so it wasn't steeling. I tear...
After the bike is complete I will tear it back down and paint the frame. I've always done it that way. Seems backward but I've found
I get better results If I Build it twice. Small things
Thanks for the info above. I'll file it in my xs650 file
I wont be building a factory 75 build yet. I'll need to run it how I build it for now. In time It'll have it done more factory OEM.
You have a beautiful bike. Can't wait until mine looks like that.
Seat is near perfect. It's a 77 seat. I will be using it until I find a nice 1975.
I'll use what I can until I find what I'm looking for. Carburetors are done too.
Where did all the rust go ?
Thats one hell of a difference from the first photos
Looking good
The rust was sanded, polished, painted or replaced.
Front forks rebuilt, polished and clear coated using U-pol system 20 clearcoat #UP2882.
Good stuff. I use it to seal all my polished parts...
Here is day 30 ish. Motor rebuilt. Gauges repainted and odometer rolled back to 11 miles.
Will need to trade you the late model tank for a 1975. That's after it's up and running. Polished the glass rings on the gauges.
Still have the wheels to go and exhaust. Looking for a good set of down...
That's exactly what I thought. No one has a perfect one that they would want to let go. I knew this piece was going to be hard to find. I can re-chrome a piece that has no rust pitting. I would like to have a new old stock but if I can't find that I will have a good one re chromed to perfect...
Yes, I have that list too. Still no luck finding a true show quality tail light assy.
What I'm really looking for is a "new old stock"
I may need to contact a Re-chrome company. What ever the cost for them to restore the light to new condition I'll pay it.
The tail light and fender MUST be...
