I have the zerk and I understand that I need to drill the top to get the ball and spring out. Where do I put it once it out? Should the spring and ball go behind the rod on the other side of this hole?

yes I did mine the same way

yep, put the spring in the hole first, then jam the ball in there, carefully einsert the rod so that you don't knock the ball out again

Ok I got it! Thanks guys. I lost three balls and I had to cut the springs down for everything to work. I should have cleaned drill holes on the rod too. It's kinda sloppy but I'll it should do ok.
