I have been searching the net for anything about the late Tony Hall of Halco Tuning and was deeply saddened to read the following letter to an online Solicitor by a Tony's Widow.

It would appear that a UK person has commenced trading under or using the Company name of 'Halco Tuning' in order to benefit from the World renowned and respected Tony Hall's reputation as a XS650 specialist.

if this letter is to be believed it would appear that this insensitive scumbag didn't even bother to contact the late Tony Hall's Family in order to seek permission to use the Company name to trade under.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who can shed any light on this and hope that you will join me in condemming whoever it is that is attempting to capitalise on the late Tony Hall's prodigous reputation, experience, expertise and considerable accomplishments to the obvious distress of his Widow

I wonder if a petition would be able to put an end to it?

I'll be honest, I have never heard of Halco until I bought my XS. I think the PO had one, dropped it, or was involved in an accident with it, causing it to slide on it's side. My bike had the Halco speedo, and side cover, but no big bore engine! I was a little bit upset lol! I have read up about him, and I think this is a shameless and self gaining profiteering act that needs to be stopped.

Perhaps an online boycott could work?

Did a quick research on this and come up with no person or company registered or trading as Halco Tuning. Just about every search for the first 2 pages in Google Search that relates to "Halco Tuning" brings up the Address and phone no's of the late Tony Hall and his address in Whiltshire.

There is one link to Facebook where a person is trading as "Xs650 engine conversions" and states
Quote; "For all you Yamaha XS650 fans that thought the 840cc big bore conversion dissapeared with Tony hall and Halco Tuning.....THINK AGAIN
We are a motorcycle company in Wolverhampton and we specialise in the XS650.
We carry out the 840cc conversion to your engine, or you can buy a complete engine from us."

The Stator cover has Halco Tuning engraved into it in one photograph.

There is another name i found but they state that they are selling Halco replica parts.
"Palma Tuning, Yamaha XS 650 specialists, based in the UK. Offering Halco replica tuning parts, spares and engine tuning services for road and race"
They have no phone no or it seems a web site???????

Found this............Halco Tuning Limited is an Inactive business incorporated in England & Wales on 23rd January 2004. Their business activity is recorded as Dormant Company. Halco Tuning Limited is run by 1 current members. and 1 company secretary. 1 shareholders own the total shares within the company. It is not part of a group.

I am sure this is distressing for her emotionally.
I wouldn't think it would be to hard for Tony's Widow to tie up the loose ends if she wanted to or had some help.. Maybe register a dotcom name HalcoTuning.com. Buy having the dotcom it would circumvent some one trading as that name, or if they did then open a blog with the dotcom name and sell pink panties or something

thats a good bit of detective work Skull

Thats exactly what I found yesterday.

Companies can trade under any name they wish provided it is a 'sole proprieter' type of business . Obviously nobody could use Halco Tuning Ltd because the Limited name is still registered to Tony's Widow and any other Directors at Companies House

Palma started trading the same year that Tony died but they made it clear that they were in no way connected with Halco .

The company in Wolverhampton are advertising and as you say they are using a Halco branded alternator cover in their advertisement which is clearly not their own. I strongly suspect that it is this company that are using the Halco brand name. If it isn't, its pretty insensitive and dishonest to use another Companies brand name to advertise your products even if the Company is currently dormant.

Tony Halls Widow could sue the Company using her Late husband's brand name if she reverted the Halco tuning Ltd Company back to a trading status. ( She still owns Halco Tuning Ltd) and then sued using the Company name but it would be expensive.

I agree Airwolfie. This is a shameless self profiteering act which they must be aware is causing Tony Hall's Widow some grief. I am sure that She must have contacted this Company before taking legal advice and her letter indicates that She was aware of this Company as a competitor before Tony took his life back in 2003 I believe

So who is the company trading under Halco's name? Just did a search and couldn't find anything. We at least need to know who to avoid/embargo when we're buying parts...

re-read my thread and do a search on the names i posted.

There is no one trading as Halco Tuning, (that i could find), but one of the above is misleading to a point

There is no evidence to substantiate your claim.

There is no evidence to substantiate your claim.

doh! there is evidence if you are prepared to put aside your personal prejudice and just read what is in my post

. There is the letter to the Solicitor by Tony Hall's Widow which should be sufficient by itself :banghead: unless perhaps you think that the letter is fabricated ?

Just because you are unable to find the Company concerned by doing a Google search isn't conclusive. Its entirely possible that Mrs Hall has managed to get the Company to stop advertising using the Halco brand name .

As I understand it Mrs Hall was complaining about a Company (no name) using the Halco brand name to give creedance to their products ie big bore engines....NOT actually trading under the Halco name

So who is the company trading under Halco's name? Just did a search and couldn't find anything. We at least need to know who to avoid/embargo when we're buying parts...

As I understand it the Company concerned isn't /wasn/t actually calling themselves Halco or trading under any derivitive of the Halco Tuning Ltd registered Company name (checked Companies House records).

The Company concerned as i understand the gist of Mrs Hall's letter was using the Halco brand name and the late Tony Hall's Engineering excellence to lend creedance to their own big bore engines . Ie they may have been advertising something along the lines of

'as built by Halco Tuning' etc which as I understand it could be a breech of copyright .

Don't take any notice of Skull he's always cranky before breakfast

No evidence peanut, just speculation and contradictory statements that you have posted.

All of the above info is in my post and can be verified. Maybe you are being emotive about this issue. Morally wrong??????? if you feel this is a moral issue then maybe but in the business world it is just that. Any edge gained can be the difference between success and failure and if any copy-write is broached then it becomes a legal issue.

As stated in the answer to Mrs Halls question. There is nothing wrong or illegal with the wording "As built by Halco" you imply it is

I did find 2 companies. One trades with a statement. "Offering Halco replica tuning parts, spares and engine tuning services for road and race"

The other is only trading on Face book and they state. "For all you Yamaha XS650 fans that thought the 840cc big bore conversion disappeared with Tony hall and Halco Tuning.....THINK AGAIN
We are a motorcycle company in Wolverhampton and we specialize in the XS650.
We carry out the 840cc conversion to your engine, or you can buy a complete engine from us."

Now this mob have a picture of a stator cover on an engine that has Halco Tuning engraved on it. This stator cover is misleading, and may, (operative word), be challenged but they do not trade or claim to be Halco Tuning,

Just the facts and its night not morning. Not cranky just straightening out the facts for you:wink2:

There is a guy In Australia building sets of Racing primary's and he states they are built to Tony halls specs. Nothing illegal about stating "Halco replics" or "To Halco specs"

oh for goodness sake give it a rest chum :banghead:

That's the guy in Wolverhampton that ripped me off, looks like he is no longer trading, GOOD!!!!!!! He is dishonest and not very competent, he used miss match parts and didn't hone the barrels properly it was a mess.... Bad if he was using the Halco name I hope he got into trouble and got closed down!!!!

Hi my name is colin better known by vindy. I had the honour and privilege to know Tony, not well but enough to have had several interactions with him. A truly brilliant helpful and knowledgeable man. I am not 100% certain, but I believe I have the last XS 650 US custom he built. I went to Fovant to collect it February 2005. Unfortunately in June of that year, some moron hit me side on coming out of a junction! It was only then when I was looking to get parts for repair,I discovered Tony had passed. It seemed that the business folded very quickly,as I couldn't track down any contacts at all! Having read your posting,I am absolutely disgusted with this situation,I'm not able to add anything useful I'm afraid, but I sincerely hope that his great legacy can be reborn somehow, out of the hands of whoever these pretenders are.
Vindy
