I hope someone can help me I purchased a 1981 xs650 it cranks but will not start can anyone help me with this please I dont know to much about these bike but i like it it is a little chopper

Make sure the battery is fully charged. Ideally, the next thing to do is check compression. Next pull a plug and see if you're getting spark. If you are, and you have good compression, then you probably need to do some carb cleaning.

Goes without saying have a fair amount of gas in the tank (I've made the mistake). Try the choke in different positions. It seems to help sometimes to have the petcock set to 'prime' if you have that type of petcock, even when the tank is full.
