Brass float test every carb every overhaul, just do it

Cup of hot water (couple of minutes in the micro) dip and watch for bubbles. 71 carb set, both floats leaked. First one had gas in it, this one would have in just a few more miles.


Soldering seldom works and never on a float with these "radial cracks".

Even if you "fix" one crack other cracks will start to leak shortly and you will be chasing your tail.

Yeah, the soldering fix seems more short-lived than it was years ago. Fixed (4) F-350 brass floats that failed within 6 months. Cracks spread everywhere.

I've also noticed an increase in brass corrosion rate over the last couple decades, probably from that ethanol...
