I had my first XS650 back in 1980 - it was a 1977 "B".....

...... so 33 yrs later :yikes: I got hold of another to do up..... this time a 1978 Special:

Its dead scruffy but surprisingly not too messed up

So much of the aluminium melted that had to pry the bikes apart to see if anything at all was salvageable.
Nothing is even close to being usable.
Have a Harley, was in the process of building, that looks even worse!

This is such a terrible, horrific event, but you have something that I don't think anybody has ever seen before, almost like a bizzare form of art. Maybe you could lease them out to the lubricants industry, under the marketing banner: "This is what happens when you don't change your oil!"

ok, just finished this and had it in the custom part but this is mine and it has been fun out riding---a little bit of a rumble but not much.

Dig the sharpie. Did you clear over it? If do what did you use?

had the tank powder coated 3 layers of eggshell white and then sharpied on the graphics. with the powder coat i felt not clear coating and allowing the weather to get to it would be cool. also without any clear coat when i get bored or the sharpie wears i can just grab some acetone and wipe off n start new. recently took the rear fender off and am thinking of changing over to a steel with very low profile sissy bar so i can pack a sleep bag and supplies for long haul trips. thank you all for the kind words and can not wait to start on my next :bike:

Weldfan,I like the fallowing of a theme threw out a bike,so I'm digging what I see on your bike.I just love seeing all the custom bikes on this forum, and reading the stories on how the builds are done.:bike:

thanks so much. i might be kicking myself in the arss if someone steals it but my next theme i want to try and pull off is a steam punk look... think it could have some really awesome details with polished copper and brass combined with solid riviting accents.

Ok Marty, here are the headlight pics I have. 66 Honda Scrambler CL77 bucket. I purchased the two lights (red and green) from Mouser Electronics. The green is of course for neutral and the red is for knowing when the charging unit is working properly.

Those look like flight attendant call buttons! Seriously, that is a nice job. I haven't seen one done like that in the past. The whole bike looks well thought out. I like it!:thumbsup:

After almost a year taking my sweet time overhauling the engine, I finally have her back on the road. I'm 100 miles into her and I now know how these bikes ran when they were new! There were 64,800 miles on the clock when she finally bit the dust. I had a lot of fun even at those miles but I now know how tired and worn out she was at the time. Now for fresh rubber, and a few cosmetic items but I can take my time on that and enjoy the rest of the riding season.

Just looking over your list of rides. How about some more pictures... Especially of that '77 red headed wife of yours. :pimp: :wink2:

Here are the other 2 rides. I bought the Camaro 3 months before my 16th birthday and spent pretty well most of 20 years getting it to where it is today. It's a family fun vehicle now instead of the worn out daily driver it once was.

The GL1000 was a non running barn find that I picked up to make a few bucks on parts. When I tested the engine and found that the bike was actually in pretty good mechanical shape, I went a totally different route with it. I have the hard bags and fairing but I doubt they will ever be mounted again (at least while it's in my possession). The bike ended up being a true joy to ride.
