The '79 XS left with it's new owner this morning. Don't even have any XS parts left.

I spent years looking for one, and more years fixing it the way I wanted it.

But, the new bike is just SO much more comfortable, dependable and convenient. And fast...

Also, the Toy Fund is looking much healthier now, so there's that.

I've been tempted myself.........................every time I go to the annual bike show, I get thinking about a new Vstrom.
Enjoy the new bike, but be sure to pop in on the website here, because you're part of the gang. That XS650 feeling may never leave you, as much as you try!:bike:

Awwwww.....the lure of speed, reliability, fuel economy, good handling and no alternator brushes to worry about, will wear thin and then some pretty little XS will toddle down the road looking for a good home someday....and you'll be back in the game Downeaster.

Downeaster, I completely understand the allure of new machinery. The reliability, performance and just the ease of use. They are ready to go any time you are with no fuss. Enjoy your new ride. Maybe someday you'll be back.

Retired gentleman, get the V-Strom you won't regret it, ( I have one too), but keep the XS for when you want your nostalgia fix.

You and I have the same model FJ-09 and I know their allure. Enjoy it!

Don't stray too far Downeaster....enjoy your new ride...I am looking real hard at one of these right now......

Cheers Mick

Mailman, yes it's a nice ride, I liked it.....a lot, I've re built two Bonnie's and grew up with them too, the note is different but not too bad, has a bucket load of grunt which is what I like....
Pete ya loose cannon, it has hand warmers "heated grips" x 2

thats sad news downeaster ....I've always found it hard to see one of my classic vehicles dissapear off into the distance with a new owner.
Part of me seems to go with it somehow ....

Good to hear you're not giving up 2x wheels altogether though and that we'll still be seeing you around the place ...

I'll give up two wheels when I can no longer find anyone to help me get my crippled old ass on the bike!

Hi Downeaster,
I can still just about get my crippled old arse onto a solo bike but it's a bitch to hold the thing upright at red lights and stop signs.
But that's where a sidecar comes in.
As well as being able to carry 12 dozen beer with the tonneau snapped down and being a great chick magnet,
you can clamber onto the saddle in easy stages and they don't fall over.
Besides making it way easier to ride on dirt and gravel adding a sidecar has added at least a decade to my riding time.

Keep on getting on those bikes guys, your insperational and are true riders...I feel somewhat older today (birthday) and won't be able to just go for a ride due to work interupting my life, I hope I have the same "motorvation" as you have when I get to old bones

I've already told my wife, if the day ever comes that I have joint trouble or balance issues. I'm getting me one of these! Come to Papa!

Or how about this prototype from Honda. The self balancing motorcycle. It is said to be able to follow you across a parking lot at walking speed! You just whistle for it , like your horse Trigger!
