Hey y'all. I recently purchased a neglected non-running xs650. The frame appears to be a 1983 xs650 (trim S or body type RS - I'm not sure) and the engine (447-711531,) a xs650D (USA) 1977. At any rate, I'm trying to ID the gas tank that came with the bike. The frame (front) and the tank (rear) were modified to fit.
How do I determine the make and model Yamaha that the tank originally belonged to or, at least narrow it down? It's too large for what I have in mind but, I'd like to know what I have. My guess is a xs750 possibly, xs850 from the early 80s. There are no identifiable markings on the gas tank. Also, the bike came with two molded fiberglass covers. No idea what they're for... Exhaust pipe covers?... Any help is much appreciated.
This is my first post. Please contact me if I posted in the wrong forum. First Yamaha, too. Just trying to figure this bike out.
Thanks,
Kilday
