xs650 build off 2014!!

The original 23" front I was using was built by Larry Pierce. Since he's passed the bike that it came from is being put back to its original condition (as Larry built it) and being made a tribute to him and his work. Instead of going with another 23 I'm going to run a 21. I'm super stoked with the look. Eventually, I'll be rocking some narrow trees, and I can't decide if the fork covers will stay or not. I've got a couple 21 spoolies that are laying around the shop so ultimately I'll be using one of those (flawless HD spoolie / 70S Hap Jones spoolie). This 21 w/ drum is just for mock up, the new Avon speedmaster will be moved to whatever rim I end up choosing.

If you decide to not use the fork covers and want to part with them let me know i need a set, thanks, and btw way i'm liking where your heading on the build.

I hope everone's builds are going well. I'd like to see more pictures! Also maybe a summary or general update on who's in (or unfortunately, who's out). I suspect some are waiting to show off the bike at the event. My thought is to show the pictures now but see the craftsmanship at the event. Best of luck!

I didn't set timing, or valves, or any of that other stuff you're supposed to do, but it started. (I did at least change oil)

Running HHB PMA, Pamco, VM34s that sat for an unknown amount of time (I didn't even check to see what Jets were in them or bother cleaning them), open exhaust, Sparx capacitor, cheap EMGO pods.

Gonna run a stock 19 mag on front for a while. Need to bleed brakes and clutch, trim down the rear fender still, install chain, set valves and timing and cam chain tension. Goal of having it running was met. New goal of having it ride-able, 2 weeks. Shouldn't be a problem, but I barely get time to work on it.

I guess this is my update post for the past two months or so... haha... been putting out fires left and right... just got some time to get on the tire machine and get the rear mounted and balanced... and trued for that matter... should come together quickly from here... just need time...

As far as fab work goes, we just got to mount the seat and fab up battery and electronics boxes. Still no idea what kind of bars we're going to run. Cheap is the name of the game on this build, so as much as I love me some apes, I don't want to buy new longer cables and hoses.

And we plan on being there even if we have to skip paint/polish/and powder and just get it running raw and rusty.

April build off update. Got the exhaust completed and the bars done. I'm working on the gussets at the neck and tank mounts.

Slow and steady I'm getting there . I'm almost ready to fire it up . I have points and plugs to put in . Adjust valves and I should be there . Have to powder coat tank also . I'm going to outfit bike for the long cruise . I have saddle bags , racks and perhaps a fairing to put on as well .
Let's see if it runs after sitting for 20 years first . My May post hopefully will have news that the engine is running strong . All your builds look great !
Regards,
CPKID

Got these in yesterday. Also spun up some polished exhaust tips just before bed time, last night.

I've set aside all day tomorrow and Friday to get this bike buttoned. I should be shredding the streets on it mid afternoon Friday.
