Oh the humanity!! (Poor, poor XS-1B!)

it is complete. I need those front hub plugs. Got any spares, Vincent?
The only thing I see done to it was put crappy glasspacks on it, and let it rot in the sun.
Starting bid:.99c

It's not completely useless, it can be used as a bad example.

Or a spokesmodel for abused moto's....

C'mon......."Vincents Home for Wayward 1B's"
Yeah, vincents budget seems to be endless.
Did you invest in Microsoft in the 80's?
hahahah I cant wait to get this 71 charging so I can head over to vince's and check out his stable.

No frame rust, chrome looks good, inside of tank looks ok, seat looks shit, all parts seem to be there so $3000 at least in Aus, and even that would be a low ball figure for here. Shit basket case Standard or specials go for 2500 or more here.

Stop your winging and be thankful you can get pristine ones for 3-6 grand in the States

Oh I never said it was beyond hope...

It just pisses me off that people let em get that bad in the first place!!

Ive always been disappointed in seeing a car or moto as just transportation. In the Puget sound, there are lots of really nice Audie's and beamers, but most of them are dirty. stock rims, no "flavor". its just transportation. I cant drive a dirty car . I wash my 2014 fiesta st(look it up) every Sunday. I drive from Shelton to Tacoma for work. almost 3,0000 miles a month.
Shall we colour you green, skull?
Oh, im very thankfull I got a 71 in more than acceptable shape.

May have... Too young to remember.

T'would be a sweet ride from here aswell. Only a couple (ok, a few) hours..... :D

In fact...now that I look at it, I probably have enough spare parts, I could....

....or you could use this "gem" to keep your early fleet afoot without wearing down hard to find parts:wink2:.....:twocents:

well on the plus side its no Sunday ride, garage queen and has been well used and enjoyed for many years

It doesn't look too bad to me from the pics. The rims look surprisingly good and most of it looks there.
if it were me I'd rebuild the engine, replace what was essential to make it safe and run it as it is ...with its 40 year patina of use /abuse

Some of us see a vehicle as an extension of the family.

No not green Angus.

The thing i see as quite funny here is a couple of things.

Hugh bought an early XS2 or 1, not sure now, it was rough as guts. He got it started and has run half was round the States on it and it has no cover on the seat and rust every where.

What are the early XS collectors doing in reality. Saving these bike so they can go out to the shed and look at them and maybe ride one. Or are they saving them because they are now worth some money and will be a nice nest egg in 10 or so yaers. Bragging rights?

Doesn't matter to me why, i have been talking about this for years and had given up trying to make people see the value in these rarer bikes. All i would get was comments about how many there were and they arn't really valuable. One sells for 6000 on ebay and now every one is talking about them like a long loss puppy has returned.

Still comments "Chop up all Specials". There are some of the Special models that had a small production run and were basically a one off. In another 5 years when there are none of those left are we then going to see the same public outcry when some one pics one up to chop???????????.

Over here there is now a recognition the 74TXA is a rarity model and starting to be sort after when a few years ago they were considered a poor cousin to the 76 and later 77.

Hugh says there are so many cranks out there he has no qualms welding up any crank he finds. once fully welded, like he does, there is not much of a chance recovering and reusing that crank.

The XS is a finite resource and we are now on the cusp of it becoming a, Where did all those go..................Laugh if you like the writing is on the wall

This bike on Ebay is a gem..$500 and it is a good deal

In the last few months fewer and fewer 650's have been listed on Kijiji here in the Toronto area. And what are listed are not barn finds, but someone's interpretation of a cafe or a brat at some price that only its owner can justify.
So are we coming into the barren seasons or has the XS 650 fad left the building?

650Skull, in your post you talk of some Specials being limited production - please mention a couple of examples. I do not think they would be the hinged seat specials, but maybe the variants in the early 80's?

Don't know about other governments, but here in Texas:

Motorcycles manufactured after 1974 must have headlights ON at all times.
For the EPA counties, I understand that bikes starting in 1978 have to pass the smog tests.

For those in the know, that may add a little value to the older stuff...

Parts bike don't be silly!!!!
Hello out there this is a matching XS1B.
Even if you put it in a corner of your garage Investment plus++++
Do people forget one of these went for $7300 recently on EBay.
Most of this bike is all there.
Good tank inside and all the parts that are beyond repair are all available on eBay and Mikes XS.
These are getting rare so I hope somebody picks this up to restore as it is only going to be more valuable down the track.

I really like it as it is ......... am I perverse ?:(

Restored bikes and cars don't seem to hold any interest for me ..... perhaps its a lifetime of not being able to afford a new vehicle without resorting to finance .

I'd far sooner have something which looks its age,... like that bike... than a restored version. Its like it has a soul..character or something

Nobody should pay more than about $400 to $500 for that bike. It will take about $4000 to $5000 of parts and labour to bring that bike back to an exceptable riding bike, and that means doing most of the labour yourself. If you put $5000 money into it, guess what, it will be worth about $5000...................profit = 0.

It will never be a low milage survivor, such as the ones that have been stored inside over the years, and never driven.

Bikes are exempt from emissions testing in metro areas of Texas. For now. There was a push to put the sniffer on anything born with catalytic converters on it, but they decided it was too much work to sort them. It would have effectively made illegal aftermarket emissions related modification. No exhaust, intake, mapping, noise makers (with the exception of a horn, maybe)

Whew! Thanx, JD. Wasn't sure, but out here in the outback, we hear things. Terrifying things.

Especially if it involves Austin.

Them bozos wrote me up for not having my headlight on.
It's right there in the book. 1974 and older are exempt!!!

For anybody who's curious.

The last-minute sniping was entertaining...
