Mailmans XS2 , the rebuild.......again

It's back better than ever, it looks great ! (and the weather don't look to shabby either)
And Jim as always your attention to nothing but the best work will do shows in the paint :bow2:
Bob's now back to styling better than before
More smiles per miles to ya :bike:

Well I got my bike out for a little break in run this morning, it almost ended before it began. I rolled my bike out to the curb, turned my gas on and immediately I had gas dripping from both petcocks! Crap! I pushed my bike back into the garage and took all my gear off and looked for the problem. Turned out to be an easy fix, there is a drain screw in each petcock that for some reason I never tightened. A couple of quick twists with a screwdriver and I was on my way!
Just ran around close to home for this first run, just to be safe. A little 20 mile run.
The boys of summer, old codger version. :laugh2:

When I got home I checked it all over for any leaks, but no drips no runs no errors! It’s running cleanly and it pulls strong. I was worried that that melted tank liner that started this whole mess , may have left some lingering issues, but everything seems good. Even my clutch which had become so grabby and hard to free up that I thought there might be no saving the friction plates, but again, no worries? Yay!

On a side note, remember those crusty tank emblems that I restored? I was going to put them on the tank when I got it back, but then I realized they were different from what I was running. They are gold letters instead of silver.
I can’t quite figure out what these were made for. I don’t think any of the 650’s wore these emblems. Anybody know?

Hard to believe how much better it looks with black gaskets.
As long as you used red grease on them they should never leak or seep. You did use the correct red grease on them?:geek:

Btw.... congrats on the first outing! Always nice to set a good tone at the start.

Yeah! Thanks, big sigh of relief here! :laugh2:

All gaskets were either sprayed with copper gasket spray, treated with Hylomar, or just oiled.

Hey I do like the new look.

Thanks! I do too! The old tank has been retired.

Hey I bet that old tank would sell on Ebay to an unsuspecting buyer:laugh:

Oh that reminds me.....you wanna buy a gas tank?

Jim you better buy an umbrella and follow Bob 'round, that Arizona sun and all.

Maybe he can ask around the Ducati camp...

I really could use some shade here.......do you think I could get an arrangement like that? :pimp:

Congratulations Mr. Mailman! I have just caught up with all of this, posted since you received the tank from your kind friend Jim. Fantastic look! Your persistence to overcome these obstacles is inspiring, to say the least.:)

Congrats getting it back on the road.

That looks real nice Bob/Jim, great job, that paint job sets the tank off, shows the shape better than the red white factory job. Looking at them both together the factory job is a backward step.

Thanks!
When I first saw that photo, I thought somebody else had the same idea! Then I realized that was my tank! :laugh2:
