Because it's a new problem? IIRC, I haven't posted about this one yet. Also, it makes it easier to search for others having a similar problem.
"removing the top LH cover on the cylinder head."
What does "LH" stand for?
Okay, that makes some sense.
Isn't the plug is supposed to fire when the cylinder is at TDC? I have it set to TDC, but on the left cylinder, not the right. Does that mean the timing is off and I need to set the timing or is that even something you do on a 1980 XS650 SG?
To be honest, I'm...
I'm still new to mechanical work so please correct me if I'm wrong, but a spark plug isn't supposed to be firing with the key in the on position. It should only fire when the engine is running. The plug on the right hand side (sitting down) is firing but the left one is not. So if they are...
Thanks for the link, but the XS650SG doesn't have a manual linked to it. :(
I guess I don't fully understand yet, because the manual I have, specifically says the following on the back.
Mine would clearly fall under the emboldened one, but why would they not list mine or something similar to...
I know for a fact I have the correct Haynes manual since on the back it says it covers my bike; however, when listing measurements, it doesn't list every model. It only lists a few, which most commonly are the following
XS1B
XS2
TX650
TX650A
XS650B
XS650C
Which one of these should I...
Thanks for the help guys! I'll go get a compression gauge today and work on that.
I'm not familiar with the term "waking", but I presume it's slang for "bringing a bike back to life" where being "asleep" would mean "not working". I'll definitely start using that when I search on the forum...
Hey guys,
So I'm working on restoring a 1980 XS 650 SG and I've done a few things so far:
Changed the oil,
Cleaned the spark plugs,
Cleaned the carbs,
Replaced the battery, and
Rebuilt the petcock
Later, I'm going to clean the fuel tank of rust. I want to clean the tank...
I called Yamaha a while back to verify the vin and they said it was an 80. Is it possible those are aftermarket, though to be honest, I'm not sure what a "tappet cover" is yet.
Thanks for the all the help, guys! I'll certainly check out the carb guide. I've actually bookmarked the page with all the links on it. With y'alls help, I was able to figure out where they connect. I'll make sure to grab a petcock rebuild kit. I haven't cranked it yet. I've been waiting until I...
Hey Guys,
I'm new to mechanical work and I'm restoring a 1980 Yamaha XS 650 SG as a hobby project to learn. I've gone through and cleaned the carbs, changed the oil, replaced the battery, and next is cleaning the fuel tank.
The issue I'm having is that I have two hoses that are disconnected...
