New Springs-Now you got to load them?

I finally got around to putting in some new front springs but I've run into an age problem getting the screw caps back on. I'm too weak to push them down and turn them in at the same time. I recently moved and don't have a vice setup yet and I'm trying to do the install with the forks in the...

    Starter Seal Replacement

Has anyone removed their starter without removing the engine from the frame? I need to replace the oil seal but I can't find a tool to access the top 2 bolts holding the starter. Thanks.

    Headlight Mount Extender

I just bought an old school (79?) windshield for my 81. After having it on for a few days it seems like the windshield needs to be farther out. I think if I just move the shield forward the headlight will be too far recessed so I'm looking for a way to move the bucket forward about 2-3". Has...

    Handlebars

Back in 78 I bought a 73 TX650, wish I had a better picture but I wanted everyone to see handle bars, they are worse that the normal rototiller bars on the Specials. Combined with the rubber mounts these were by far the worst bars I've ever endured on a motorcycle. Alas I was 19 years and...

    Idle Mix Screw

I have 2 sets of BS34's that have different size idle mixture screws. I have tried to determine which size is correct for the 81 carb but I have not been able to find the info anywhere. If anyone knows which size is correct I would appreciate the help. The image shows both screws with the...

    My 81 Resto-Mod. progress

I've made some minor tweaks since the last time I posted on my project. You'll notice that my 81 Special is nostalgic and prefers to tribute a few other years. I lowered the front forks by 3" and the rear by 1.5" with some different shocks. I had to cut the center stand down and have it welded...

    Timing?? 81 XS650SH

I've gone through the carbs thoroughly and balanced the float levels. It won't run without back firing and surging. When I attempt the dead cylinder set up to adjust the air mixture it run's on that cylinder just fine, no backfire. I won't mention how many times I've pulled the carbs and...

    Butterfly seals

I order asset from Ebay but they are smaller than the originals. According to the seller all seals swell over time from the heat. I've never heard of this before. I've attached images showing the seals I removed from my 1981 BS34's on the left of the seals I received. Please share your...

    What is this for?

This odd shaped plastic container doesn't have a purpose that I can determine. It's not sealed it even has an opening that lets a small metal loop pass into it. Since I don't have an owners manual can someone enlighten me?

    Rusted Cylinder Frozen

I have an 81 special thats sat since 86. After 5 weeks of soaking the cylinder with MMO I've decided I need to pull it apart. Since the motors locked I can't get too the link that separates the timing chain. If anyone has a suggestion or solution I'm interested in hearing it. Thanks from a newbe.
