Sounds like maybe a lean mixture, try a bit of choke/enrichener...if you loose the pop and the revs drop normal then you are lean. Have you been fiddling with idle mixture?

Might be a rich mixture...have a look at your plugs after it craps out.

I removed the black plastic inner fender for better access, 4 bolts, 10mm I think....or was that 3 bolts...either way, better access once removed.

I'm back at it trying to figure this ignition issue out, here is a recap. 1980 TCI, my bike starts right up, one or two kicks and runs great with reg/rec unplugged. Plug in reg/rec and it still starts easy but skips under load...meter shows aprox 14 volts just off idle with rec/reg plugged in...

I think '+' comes from the main switch where it indicates 'battery'....near the top left corner of the diagram.

OEM VStrom bars are a nice bend for a tracker if you don't mind basic black, they go cheap on Ebay and are knurled in the right place...worth a look.

This component seems to have 'B9' or something like that printed on it....does that sound like a familiar ZD value?

A friend soldered in 4 new diodes for me but it still is skipping. He said that ZD4 looked like it got hot, the conformal coating was messed up there. Is this a zener diode? Does anyone know the value of this part? My card is exactly like the one below

xjwmx, could you explain the diode test for me. I have my tci box on the bench and hope this will be the end all ignition fix er up. Can I do this with a little fluke meter that has standard functions? 'They're easy to test in-circuit since they just run out to the cable'
