I bought 10 w 40 oil for my XS. The manual reads 20w50. Will the 10w40 hurt my bike? I don't want to exchange the oil if I don't have to.

It's a little noisier if you leave the oil in long enough for it to fall out of grade, but it won't "hurt" anything. If you are changing it as often as you should change screened, rather than filtered oil, it'll be fine. I ran 2 changes worth of 10W40 Valvoline bike oil through mine in Maine. Went to 20W50 for Texas temps.

Is the oil you got rated for wet clutches? Motorcycle oil is, car oil isn't. If czar oil I wouldn't run it, it may cause the clutch to slip.

It's motorcycle 10w40. I'll change it once I get the bike up and running. I've been working on the bike for a year. I've broken some stuff since I don't know what I'm doing, which means doing it over.
