17" supermoto wheels

Hey Arvis, how did you resolve the wheel / sprocket / gearing issue?
I need to solve my Welsh Flat Tracker with the same problem. I'm running 18'' rear Husqvarna wheel hubs with 17/40 sprockets!
Fun around town but it's knocking my fillings out at speed and my dentist is the only happy person!!!

Adam, if this helps, I had a quick look on that internet and couldn't find a 32 tooth sprocket for a Husqvarna hut so I phoned the experts at MotorcycleRaceParts.co.uk and spoke to a very helpful gentleman who said the answer is probably going to making up a custom hub. Which I think he said would cost about £86. They can certainly do a 32 tooth sprocket or any other size you might want like such as 33 or 34 BUT he would need more details about the hub. You could perhaps try calling or emailing M/CRP or any indeed other specialist?

Hi Raymond,
Thanks for the time and information. I may well follow this up.
I have done some research but not found a definitive solution. I was thinking of just going 18F/36R which seems possible.
I'm concerned about the close proximity of the 18F sprocket to the shaft next to the sprocket behind the casing; clearance seems really tight.
The forum states people have done it but no one comments on the success or failure of such an install.

My bike is eating money at the moment; A full moto gadget install with lights and indicators is over £600 with me doing the work.
I already committed to that so can't complain.
The rearset issue is also a concern as the Dan-Moto kit seems to be made of shite-alloy, and not very durable.
I may be forced to buy new rear sets possibly Cognito Moto kit from America; they do incredible builds and sell good kit (Not cheap however).

Others will be able to give better guidance but I seen to remember that fitting an 18T front you need to be careful of the chain size to avoid sawing into the crankcase.

Yes the combo of an 18 tooth with high spec X or O ring chain will create a very tight clearance.
The small diameter rear sprocket/bolt circle has been an ongoing issue for XS650 rear wheel swaps. Going to low profile 17 tires adds to the woes.
Don't forget to factor in excessive swing arm angles in an effort to retain some ground clearance on an "on off road" machine.

Hi Adamc, nice bike. I am running 18/38 sprockets. 18 was custom made with offset to accommodate wider tire and 520 chain.

Thanks Arvis
Next time you remove the cases, take a piccie of the sprocket please.
Don't go to any trouble, just next time you do.
Cheers
A.

I used LSL rearset kit, the quality is very good. Not sure if they are still making it though.

Hi Arvis,
Just checked out LSL they are still made (a Dutch company).
Quality looks great. Website doesn't make clear about disc brake version. I note you have that as do I.
Did you modify the LSL or was it a straight bolt on job?
Cheers

We had to adapt original lever to convert to disc brake. Also one lever from LSL kit needed extending to exert more force on master cylinder.

Thanks for the update.
I have now bought a new set from Cognito Moto USA.
Also a new rear hub for disc conversion that uses standard rear sprocket options.
