How many miles would you say on average does it take the electric starter to start to make that grinding noise. Mine started making noise at 1600 miles. This seems a little early. thanks for your help. txgary
I had a 73 with a starter that was working fine at an indicated 13,000 miles,. The good news is that a late model spring properly crimped and installed just in front of the spring pocket should fix it it up lickity split if you get right at it and don't let the gear get ground down.
