Hey there. Need to replace my camshaft on my 1980 xs650. Anyone know if a camshaft from a 1979 will fit on a 1980? Is there anything I need to know about changing this out to a previous year?

I should also mention I will be installing a pamco ignition on my bike after swapping this out.
The engine from 74 to 83 was the same, so yes the camshafts will swap over.
Going with a Pamco,you will need the ATU (mechanical advancer) and advancer rod that normally comes with a 79 camshaft. Now that Pete is selling the E-advancer with the Pamco, you will only need the advancer rod, and not the fly-weights.

Thanks Man. Yeah I already bought all the pamco for the 80-84 model. Bushings, Rod etc Etc.
The whole Kit from Mikes XS
Went to install the bushings in the cam last night and they were not going in easily. I Cleaned out the hole and even tried putting a little grease on there and it seems as though the bushings I got from Mikesxs were too big for my cam.. I did the same install on my buddys 81 and the bushings went in no problem two taps and in.. I sat there for 20 min doing lightly tapping on the bushings they started going in and then the camshaft cracked on the threads where the pin hole is
