I've finally got my hands on the correct side stand for my 650b, the pivot tabs were every so slightly bent so I've got the cherry red then carefully tweaked them into alignment.

What I don't understand is that, when down the flat of the foot doesn't meet the floor square on, and when retracted the rubber buffer area doesn't meet with the frame buffer area.

Everything looks correct including the side stand mounting point on the frame. Any ideas short of getting it very hot again and manipulating it to where I need it?

I think the tang at least needs to be straightened. According to the parts diagram, there's only one bend in it after the rubber bumper bracket, yours has two .....

The tang looks really long on the parts diagrams on CMS compared to mine and all I've seen for sale. The stand has a hole for a damper but so does the frame so should there be one on both as that looks the only way mine will make contact.

Although the part numbers are the same for an XS650b, tx650 and 750 I'm not convinced they can be. This part I have came from a tx, the main shaft is dead straight but you can see from the parts diagram that an xs650b stand has a bend in it.

TX650A (74) and XS650B (75) would be the only matches. You can't always trust the fiches. The centerstand has a differnt shape/length tang than other years too. Your shaft looks straighter than the drawing.
Kind of looks like it needs to be twisted a bit. the tang should wrap/fit more closely to the muffler.

According to the parts fiche a 1975 tx750 side stand is the same part number as well, which having looked back is what mine was from. Something is still not right however, so as you say trusting a parts list may be my error.

You can't completely trust those fiches.
BOTH these sidestands are listed as correct in the partzilla fiche.....

This Yamaha 341-27311-01-00 STAND, SIDE fits the following models and components:
Yamaha Motorcycle 1975 MX250B STAND - FOOTREST BRAKE-PEDAL
Yamaha Motorcycle 1974 TX750A STAND - FOOTREST BRAKE-PEDAL
Yamaha Motorcycle 1973 TX750 STAND - FOOTREST BRAKE-PEDAL
Yamaha Motorcycle 1975 XS650B STAND FOOTREST BRAKE PEDAL TX650A - XS650B
Yamaha Motorcycle 1974 TX650A STAND FOOTREST BRAKE PEDAL TX650A - XS650B

This Yamaha 447-27311-06-00 STAND, SIDE fits the following models and components:
Yamaha Motorcycle 1975 XS650B STAND FOOTREST BRAKE PEDAL TX650A - XS650B
Yamaha Motorcycle 1974 TX650A STAND FOOTREST BRAKE PEDAL TX650A - XS650B
Yamaha Motorcycle 1976 XS650C STAND FOOTREST BRAKE PEDAL XS650C

Pretty sure there are errors in both "will fit" lists.
Errors like this are common, especially in the earlier 70-76 years.
Convecture but; paper based parts catalogs were scanned and digitized later, by a clerical worker without technical training? errors creep in.

I went through this where I bought what I thought would be the correct side stand as per those fiches and it was not correct for my '74. One of these days I'll post that stand for sale.
No doubt you have the stand I need and I have the one you need with a huge body of water between us.

I didn't think there was a 1975 TX750. I thought that was a 2 year only model ('73-'74).

Trawling through old posts I found these images thanks to @nhsteve Quite clearly very different to the one I have, super long tang and a definite bend in th stand stem, parts fiches lie!!!

Revisiting this now that my bike is nearly on the road again, bending cast side stands with a Mapp gas torch isn't happening. I can't even get it red and with a length of thick steel pipe over it it won't budge.

This is the one I bought from a forum member a while back, hoping it would fit my '74, but it did not (too short - see my thread) I believe it to be a '75. I can send this to you if it is suitable.

Ah now that's interesting, I have that exact one that I bought as a replacement to my mangled stand. I believe that is from a 76 and although it fits, when folded up the tang is too low down and the buffer doesn't meet.

Thanks for the offer though.

Yes, that appears to be the one year only '76 stand .....

A '75 stand looks quite a bit different (tang, spring anchor point) .....

This stand came on my ‘75 but the tang was broken off. I assumed it was correct and never checked. I made my own tang and with fitting it does work. I guess I’ve got a 1-off lolimage.jpg
