I enjoyed drag racing as a "racer" but as a spectator sport I find it as boring as golf.

I did a little drag racing, both car and bike. It can be fun in 'bracket racing' but that's boring as hell to watch. Drag racing is also a massive money game; it's reasonably easy to build a 11 or 12 second street car but trying to go beyond that ramps up considerably. And here's the dumb part (to me): you are paying more money to drive for shorter periods. 
For way less money I can build an IT road race car and get 3 hours of seat time per weekend. Makes more sense on a dollars per minute ratio, know what I mean? heck, when racing hare scrambles and GNCC it was even cheaper dollars/minute. But you know what was STUPID expensive?
R/C cars. Damn, they are expensive. And there's NO 'seat time'. Oh, well; at least I learned suspension setup from that.
