I am in need of a M15x1.0mm tap to thread 2 pieces of aluminum. I don't really trust the cheap ebay specials, used would work but I haven't found any either.

Reaching out to a broad audience for help.

Thanks.

McMaster is local to me, but they don't have a 15mm tap. Weirdly its not a common item. 14mm jumps to 16mm.

I only need to run the tap through twice. Hard to spend $30 on such a unique item.

Hand threading aluminum, the $17 shipped, chinese taps should be fine, I have bought one or two for one time use they worked fine, look em over, if needed a light touch with a diamond stone on the cutting edges. use the proper aluminum threading techniques. The basics are lots of lube and frequent backing out, I like the 1/2 turn in 3/4 turn out technique. Blow out removed metal often, have at it. What you DON"T want to do is turn and turn till the tap starts to bind, this will gum up the tap and tear out newly formed threads.

Here's a discussion that fits your situation to a T tell us how things go for you?
